The Wolf : Orianne Lallemand (Review and Giveaway )

Reading books is a SOP ( Standard Operating Procedure) for Big C. Everyday during his school assembly, he is required to read a book for half an hour. It has been challenging to find age appropriate books for him to read during this period. Thus when Wild Crane Press offered us The Wolf series written for children age 7 and up to review, it was accepted without hesitation.

They say the first impression counts. The 5 books in the series comes in paperback version. The cover is illustration by Elenore Thullier is pleasing and inviting. The Wolf is written by Orianne Lallemand. Each book features the the adventures of a grumpy but kind hearted Wolf. Each story highlights a theme such as friendship, self-acceptance and other values.
As children in early primary school has a shorter attention span, books that are well illustrated and easy to read would attractive to this group of early readers.

The Wolf who loves himself

The books are written in a lighthearted manner with wits and puns that adults will appreciate. The childlike humor in the Wolf's adventures will delight the intended audience.
The use of different fonts to highlight a key word is useful. For example , in The Wold who wanted to change his colour, colored fonts were used to empahsize the colours. These will be useful in reading to reinforce the message to the reader. In addition , as an exercise with the child, you can use the illustrations on the pages for a little 'show and tell' session with you child, asking them to create their own tales from the colourful pictures and subsequently compared it to the original.
The Wolf series are a good read for lower primary students. With the colourful illustrations, it makes a great storytelling book to preschool kids too!
