Ecstatic Dessert Review: The Missing Sweet Spot at Joo Chiat

Joo Chiat has long been a food paradise, offering everything from Vietnamese pho to Italian pasta, Thai street eats, Chinese zi char, Western brunch, and even fusion concepts.

But one thing has been missing: a proper place for traditional desserts. We’re not talking about ice cream and waffles, but warm and cold sweets with an old‑school feel. That gap is now filled by Ecstatic Dessert, a spot we stumbled upon on Google Maps.

THE PLACE

This is a true hidden gem. Located on the second floor of a row of shophouses, you’d miss it if not for a small signboard by the staircase.

Inside, the space is compact,

only three to four groups. It’s cosy, unpretentious, and perfect for a quiet dessert stop after dinner.

THE DESSERT

Though it’s positioned as a traditional dessert shop, Estatic Dessert gives its sweets a modern twist.

You can stick to the classics or explore their milk‑based desserts, fresh fruit coconut series, ice jelly creations, and dessert soups.

Mango Sticky Rice Purée

This isn’t your typical sticky rice dessert. It’s smooth mango purée with popping boba that bursts in every bite. We couldn’t really find the sticky rice element, but the texture and flavour made it a winner.

Taro Ball and Mochi Milk

This bowl comes loaded with taro balls, red beans, lotus seeds, rice mochi, and milk broth. It’s quite different from the usual traditional dessert,  a mix of chewy textures and light creaminess that works surprisingly well.

VERDICT
Ecstatic Dessert is exactly what Joo Chiat needed

A cosy spot for warm and cold desserts after a hearty meal along the stretch. We’ll definitely be back to try more (the mochi is next on our list).

A quick tip: If you’re taking away, spend the extra 30 cents for their packaging. The containers are sturdy and well‑designed. It's nice enough to keep as a souvenir, and even the takeaway bag is unique. Small touches like these make this place a standout.
