Swensen's Spanking new dishes!

Swensen's has been in Singapore since 1979. Daddy fondly remembered that during his youth, he would look forward to family meals at Swensen's at Changi Airport. The treat for the day would be the banaa split ice cream.

It is amazing how some things remain in this ever evolving little State we call Singapore. Swensen's had since grown from a little restaurant in Thomson Plaza to one that has 20 full-service outlets within Singapore.
When the invitation came to try out Swensen's new menu for the month of September/October, Daddy did not hesitate. It is a great way to introduce to us Daddy's favourite joint when he was younger.
What's on the menu today?
The menu came in a surprise format for the new dishes. We were glad to see Food Bloggers on the cover of the menu. The recognition given to the bloggers via their recommendation on the menu is commendable. Bloggers had indeed came a long way from simply content creators to social influencer.

+1 to Swensen's for giving the bloggers credit. The bloggers featured are ladyironchef, Danielfooddiary.com, Camemberu and Keropokman.

After reading their reviews, we could not wait to get our hands on the dishes. Swensen's had kindly provided all 4 main course for this food tasting. These new range of fusion-inspired dishes is a departure from the old school classics of Swensen's. At wallet friendly prices , it promised quality with every bite.

A Yummy treat indeed!
First up we have the Spiced Maple Chicken Waffle( $14.90). This dish is great for those who can't decide between a main or a dessert. With four pieces of crispy chicken stacked over a warm Belgian waffle and a generous dose of maple syrup infused with chilli padi, you are guaranteed an explosive mydriad of taste in your mouth.

This is probably our favourite dish of the day.
Spiced Maple Chicken Waffle
How do you top a dish as delectable as the Spiced Maple Chicken Waffle? You intoduce the glorious Crispy Cereal King Prawns ($19.90). Essentially an upsized version of the Zhi Char cereal prawn, these golden fried king prawns will whet the appetite of cereal prawn lovers. Served with steak cut fries and mesclun salad for a full meal.
Crispy Cereal King Prawn
If prawn and chicken are not your choice of mains, consider the Braised BBQ Beef Cheeks ($21.90). Infusing Korean by way of Korean marinade top with fruity BBQ sauce, this east meets west dish will ignite the taste buds. The beef we had was a little tough on the edges. However the overall exotic taste mix of Ying and Yang made up for it.
Braised BBQ Beef Cheeks
Last but not least, we had the Herb Crusted King Snapper ($15.90). If you are a fan of herbs, you would love this herb infused dish. Baked over tangy honey mustard and topped with herb crust made of bread crumbs, garlic, chopped parsley and Parmesan cheese, the King Snapper gives out an aroma that is reminsce of the exoctic Far East.

What is a trip down to Swensen's without sundae? There are four recommended Sundaes to be paired with the meals above. They are the Salted Gula Meleka Heaven ($9.90) , the Mango Fantasy ( $10.5) , Chendol Delight ($9.90) and the Merri-mint ($7.90)
The recommended pairing as follows
  • Spiced Maple Chicken Waffle- Chendol Delight
  • Crispy Cereal King Prawns- Mango Fantasy
  • Braised Beef Cheeks - Merri- Mint
  • Herb Crusted King Snapper - Salted Gula Melaka Heaven
Daddy thought the Salted Gula Melaka Heaven is the best of the lot and would probably goes with anything on the menu. You will get $1 off the recommended sundae pairing if you order the exclusive range of new mains.
Salted Gula Melaka Heaven , Mango Fantasy and Chendol Delight
The new mains may not be kids favourite due to the exotic spices and flavours, but we are sure the mommies and daddies out there would love to have a bite.
As for little kids like us, Swensen's does provide an extensive space adventure menu for kids.
Space adventure
Each kids menu comes with a main course, corn cup, choice of soft drink, apple or orange juice and an exclusive spaceship to take home.
I had the Fishy Chippy while big brother digs into his Egy-licious burger. Our verdict- Yum yum!
To top it off, we headed to the dessert bar for our choice of ice-cream. Swamp with a counter of hundreds of flavours ( er ok it may be less, but it sure feels like a hundred to us) , we were indeed spoil for choices.

Now we know why Daddy raved about Swensen's -it's the ice cream!!!
A Special thanks to Swensen's and Aly for the invitation. With good company and great food, it was indeed a delightful evening for the family.
Thanks Swensen's !
The Spanky new menu will be available at Swensen's from 1Sep to 31st Oct.
