Pier 2620 Hotel , San Francisco USA Review

Heading to San Francisco?

San Francisco is a great destination for families. There are plenty to do there such as seeing the seals at Fisherman's Wharf, a day trip to Alcatraz, taking selfies at the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, visit the famed California Academy of Science among many others. If you are looking for more, do read our California Road Trip Itinerary for more adventures in San Francisco.

For a most tourist in SF, they would opt to stay at Union Square or Fisherman's Wharf. We decided in Pier 2620 located at  Fisherman's wharf, as it has plenty of attractions for families to explore on foot. If you have been to SF, you would know that parking is extremely expensive ( more than USD 100 per day) and car burglary is a regular occurrence.  Lucky for us there are plenty of alternative options such as foot, buses or Uber to bring you around.

We highly recommend using the San Francisco Go Card to plan your trip and transportation. More on that later on the post.

Back to the hotel, checking in was a breeze. Considering that we drove over 370 miles to get here from LA, we were thankful to be given a room immediately upon check-in. Pier 2620 is located within a block away from Fisherman's Wharf. There are plenty of dining options there within walking distance. In terms of location, it is worth the bang for the buck.

Our room was booked with booking.com. We managed to snag a decent offer ( better than booking direct) on the website. We booked the Deluxe Double bed option and was upgraded to the signature double bed option when we check-in. It was a pleasant surprise as the option was pricey as it faced the tranquil courtyard instead of the busy road.

The Room
Pier 2620 room
If you are a fan of industrial chic, you would love Pier 2620. Unlike you cookie cutter hotel rooms, the rooms were decked out in industrial tones. From the stone walls to expose pipes, you would feel as if you are living in a warehouse.... in a good way of course.

With this industrial design, do not expect bright lights. The room was quite dimly lit even when we have all the lights on.

Good for sleeping, not great for reading.

The bathroom comes with standard amenities and a decent size bathtub.

The room comes with cable TV and has a dock for charging your phones and tablet. It looks a bit old but it works.

Our room faces the courtyard. It was a relatively quiet save for the thin walls. You can hear the people outside the corridor... so that means they can hear you too!

Pier 2620 is undergoing a renovation to retrofit the rooms and would probably address this issue.

The courtyard is a nice place to chill out if the weather is good. Access to the courtyard is only available to guests.

If you like working out during the holidays, there is a decent size gym in the hotel as well.

Location Location Location

The best part about Pier 2620 is the location.  It's only a block away from Fisherman's Wharf and less than 10 minutes on foot.

If you have the GO San Francisco Card, you could also visit places such as Ripley's Believe it or Not! , Exploratorium, Madame Tussauds San Francisco, The San Francisco Dungeon and the  USS Pampanito. In addition, you can also take the cruises around the bay included in the card.

Pier 2620 is also located near Alcatraz. Plan a day trip there or combine a trip exploring Alcatraz and a city tour or a day out at Sausalito. Do remember to book before you visit as tickets are on a first come first serve basis.

Other attractions within walking distance is Lombard Street, the world's steepest street with 8 hairpins turns.

It is also near the Powell / Mason Cable Car turnaround if you would like to get a ride to Union Square.

Another option of getting around is to use the Go San Francisco card. Purchase the 2 day pass and you get Hop on Hop off 1 day ticket + another bonus day to travel around San Francisco.

The bus would take you around the major attractions in San Francisco. Plan your day well and it's probably the only card you need for the stay in the city.

The best part, there is a stop located just 50 meters away from Pier 2620!
