Dyson Supersonic hairdryer Review : Worth the price tag?

Over Valentine's Day, the missus received a surprise gift

It was our Valentine's Day together. In the beginning, there were dinner dates and flowers. Through the years, the dates became rarer and the flowers lesser. There may not be flowers over Valentine's day, but that does not mean I could not surprise here. Practicality triumphs over romanticism these days as I picked up a Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer for her.

The Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer is not a new product. It has been around since 2016. Yet. it is still a sought after product by many ladies. Getting one for Valentine seems appropriate for the occasion.

The Shop Experience @ Dyson Demo Store Capitol Piazza
Dyson Demo Store Capitol Piazza
The set was collected from Dyson Demo Store @ Capitol, Piazza. Before this, I always thought you get Dyson products at electronic retail stores such as Best Denki or Harvey Norman and was not expecting a speciality outlet.  It reminded me of  Apple store, where you could go in, touch the products and try before purchase.

The Dyson Supersonic hairdryer package comes with a case of your choice as well as a complimentary brush kit.  To add to the personal touch, you can engrave the initials of your loved ones on the box ( only available for purchase online at www.dyson.com.sg or at Dyson Demo store outlets.)

At a retail price of $599, it is not the cheapest hair dryer in town. The experience of getting it in-store together with the embossing and the free gifts does make up for the premium price tag.

The User Experience
Dyson Supersonic

The most important thing for hairdryer would be the performance So what does the Dyson Supersonic has that other hairdryers do not?

Technology
If you use a normal hairdryer, you would know that most use heat to dry your hair. Heat might make the hair dry but extreme temperatures can damage hair and decrease shine when dry. Dyson Supersonic drys your hair uses intelligent heat measuring air temperature at 20 times per second to regulate heat. We used it and found that it does not 'burn' the hair scalp. Drying time is also a tad faster than usual.

There are four heat settings and it uses Dyson well know Air Multiplier technology found in its bigger bladeless fans.

Noise
It is also said that the hairdryer is acoustically tuned to product an inaudible frequency. It does not mean that is it silent, just not as loud as the usual hairdryer.

Weight
If you used a hairdryer, you would notice the weight is centred towards the top of the hairdryer. This makes handling a hairdryer similar to how you would handle Thor's hammer. You probably need strong arms to hold it for long to dry the hair.

The Dyson Supersonic has the motor placed in the handle. With the small footprint and ergonomic design, it's easy to handle. The downside, you can't train your arms with this one.

Function
Top Left: Smoothing Nozzle, Top Right: Styling Concentrator, Bottom Left -Diffuser Bottom Right: Gentle air attachment

The Dyson Supersonic is like a transformer. With four magnetic attachments, you have literally 4 machines rolled into 1. Attaching the accessories is as easy as a click.

Smoothing Nozzle: Creates smoother airflow for a smoother finish
Styling concentrator: Gives you precision styling
Diffuser: For defined curls and waves
Gentle air attachment: Fat yet gentle styling for fine hair and sensitive scalps

You can also use without the attachment for a more powerful blast making it a 5 in one machine. Now $599 sounds so much cheaper now.

Stylish

Admittedly, the one thing that attracts is the look. This does not look like your ordinary hairdryer. Instead, it looks like a futuristic tool that came out from a sci-fi movie.  Add the petite case that comes with it that doubled as a travel case, it is one that you could use both at home and travel.

We are SOLD!

Bottomline
Makes an excellent gift!
At $599 per set, it is not exactly cheap, especially for a hairdryer. However, if you are looking for a gift for that special occasion such as anniversary, birthday or Valentine's, we are sure that the receiver would not say no to it.

Her healthy and shiny hair would thank you for it ( oh yeah, guys can use it too!).
