Sakura Matsuri @ Flower Dome :7 Reasons to Visit

Missed Sakura Season in Japan due to COVID19?

You can now enjoy the springtime blossoms without flying to Japan. Sakura Matsuri is back at Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay from 6 - 29 March. Here are 6 reasons why you should head down to catch it.

1 ) Over 500 Cherry and Peach Blossom Trees

There are over 500 Cherry and Peach blossom trees, including perennial favourites like the award-winning cherry blossom cultivar 'Prunus Accolade' with beautiful shell-pink blooms and the classic Prunus 'Yedoensis' with elegant white flowers for you to admire.

Words cannot describe its beauty, so enjoy these photos instead.

2) Enjoy 3 in one attraction- Sakura, Torri Gates and Gasso Style Farmhouse

Other than Sakuras, you can see miniature Gassho-style Farmhouses inspired by the ones at villages of Ogimachi in Shirakawa-go.

The only thing missing is the snow-capped roof but since its spring, it will be far fetched to see snow anyways.

You can also be transported to Fushimi Inari to see replicas of the famed red Torri Gates.

If you want a glimpse of the real deal, read our Kyoto Day Trip experience to plan for your next holiday once Covid19 pass us.

Sakura, Torri Gates, Gassho House anyone?

3) Immerse in Japan Culture

Complementing the floral display are free cultural events like Japanese tea ceremonies, taiko drum performances and kendo demonstrations.

4) Fun for kids!

Children can follow the adventures of Momotaro - Tales of the Peach boy. This Japanese Folklore hero is born from a peach and has three sidekicks who fought alongside with him

There are also Experience Areas in Flower Dome where you can try exciting Sony Playstation Games or participate in Danbo Colouring workshop.

For fans of Japanese Pop Culture, a colourful weekend  (March 28/29) awaits at Anime Gardens at the Meadow. There will be appearances by celebrity cosplayers, anisong concerts, J pop performances and more.

5) Take a Hanami Experience

What's a Hanami Experience?

It is a ride on the Auto rider, an autonomous vehicle which will take you from Bayfront Plaza o the Flower Dome for the floral display. You can don a yukata for the Instagram shot amidst the cherry blossoms.

The Hanami Experience includes the following
  • Two way ride between Bayfront Plaza and Flower Dome on the Auto Rider
  • Yukata Rental
  • Hanami Pack of Sakura Flavoured snacks and green tea
  • Sakura Sake Tasting
