Tze Char King Review : Delivering your favourite Tze Char to your doorsteps

Feeling hungry?

We know the feeling, you want to have a hearty Tze Char meal but am too lazy to head out to the Kopitiam to order. Or perhaps you stay too far away from your favourite Tze Char store and have to take transportation there just to get a meal. Sometimes, the one who usually buys food in the house is simply too exhausted to head out to buy.

That is why online Tze Char stores like Tze Char King is most welcoming.

Tze Char King

As stated on their website, Tze Char King is set up by a group of Tze Char Regulars who source and work with the chef with over 20 years of experience. There is a reasonable $8 delivery for each order with free orders above $100. It is a relatively new site with its first Facebook post dated March 18.

Unlike some websites that had dated reviews even before their inception, there are no dubious reviews on the website or awards that cannot be verified. That passed our authentic test for ordering.

Despite not having a storefront, the selection of choices is quite decent at Tze Char King. They have speciality crab dishes made from Sri Lankan Crabs, Prawns, Fish Head and familiar Tze Char food like Giner & Spring Onion Beef, Sweet and Sour Pork, Prawn Paste Chicken, Stir-Fried Kai Lan and more. For those who preferred single dishes, noodles like Seafood Hor Fun and Fried Rice can be ordered from their website.

There is also a basic meal that comprises chilli crab and selected dishes at $88. We think that deal is pretty worth it.

Food Review

We went ahead and order a small selection of dishes. Wanting to pamper ourselves, we ordered an assortment of their premium seafood and side dishes. The order was made a day earlier, and the food came within the stipulated time.

So far, so good.

Chilli Crab

Chilli Crab is Dad's favourite seafood. Naturally, we added this to the menu.

Despite ordering the smaller portion, the crab was of decent size. While the meat was fresh and well-cooked to tenderness, the sauce lacks a little punch. It was not as spicy as expected despite its Chilli Crab billing. Since it was mildly spicy, it is easier for kids to lap up the sauce, especially if you order the fried mantou with it.

Salted Egg Prawn Ball

The Salted Egg Prawn Ball was a different level altogether. You can taste the salted egg flavour with each bite that compliments the sweetness of the prawn. It is a delightful tango of sweet and salted flavour that dances in your mouth.

Fried Calamari

This dish has a mixed reaction. When the calamari is not too thick, it is perfect with crunchy fried skin. However, the odd few were slightly more rubbery than spicy—a hit and miss in our books.

Yam Ring
The Yam Ring is categorised as a side dish. In reality, a small portion is good enough for 3 to 4 pax. This dish has chicken meat, prawns, mushrooms and vegetables. If there is one dish you have to try, this would be it. The handmade yam ring is also a delight for yam lovers.

Fried Rice

To complement the dishes, we ordered the classic fried rice. The rice has some char sou, eggs and peas that are cooked similar to Yang Chow style. Tastewise, it could do with a sweeter sauce.

Overall, we were quite contented with our food for the evening. There is room for improvement for some dishes, but we finished every bite of it. A good thing to note was that it was a smooth process ordering online, and there were no mistakes in the order. That is bonus points in our book.
