Typhoon Cafe i12 Katong Review : Comfort Taiwanese Delight

Craving for Taiwan Food?

If you are looking for Taiwanese comfort food at a reasonable price, Typhoon Cafe is the place to go.

We recently visited Typhoon Cafe at i12 Katong to savour their authentic Taiwanese dishes. This cosy spot offers a hole-in-the-wall cafe vibe and is famous for its delectable sweet treats, like Souffel Stackers and Mochi Waffles. You can find Typhoon Cafe at four different locations: i12 Katong Mall, Kallang Wave Mall, Bugis+, and Plaza Singapura.

The i12 Katong outlet has an intriguing design - it feels like a hole in the mall rather than a hole in the wall. Situated in the basement, it lacks a traditional ceiling, offering a semi-alfresco dining experience with a view of the mall's layout. It's a unique place to people-watch and be seen.

The seating booths are decorated in light browns with pops of orange-red cushions and Tiffany green accents, creating a relaxed atmosphere that mirrors the casual vibe of the food.

We picked a selection of appetizers, mains and desserts for our meals.

Appetiser

Chili Oil Dumplings $10.80

These dumplings are packed with generous fillings, delivering a satisfying kick without being too spicy. Overall it was a decent choice while flavouring could be enhanced.

Double Boiled Chicken Collagen Soup $12.80

A hearty chicken meal with herbal flavours and a hint of ginseng in the soup. This is perfect for a nourishing experience.

Mains

Panko Canadian Pork Chop With Egg-Fried Rice $14.80

The egg fried rice is familiar, not greasy, but could use more flavour. The Pork Chop is a tad on the thin and dry side with a crispy texture. It is filling in its own, so consider this dish and a dessert to go with it for a quick meal.

Signature Taiwanese Oyster & Pork Intestine Mee Sua $14.80

If you're a fan of pork intestine, you'll love this dish; the smooth vermicelli in a rich, gooey broth is a comforting delight. It's not too overwhelming in taste and just right for us.

Vegetable

Heavenly 4 Kings of Vegetables $13.80

This stir-fried mix of long beans, eggplant, stink beans, and winged beans, cooked with shrimp sambal and garlic, offers a flavorful medley of textures and tastes. A good option for those who want a healthier dish.

Seafood / Meat

Salted Egg Prawn $26.80

These big prawns fried with salted egg are not only delicious but also convenient to enjoy without the need to peel.

Claypot Sanbei Chicken $13.80

The dominant flavours in this dish came from soy sauce, rice wine, and sesame oil, blending harmoniously with hints of basil and ginger, resulting in a delightful aroma. Additionally, the chicken itself was remarkably tender and juicy.

Dessert

White Rabbit Souffle $18.90

A must-try dessert with fluffy pancakes, dried oranges, White Rabbit milk pudding, and White Rabbit ice cream - a delightful mix of flavours and textures for a sweet ending. This is a special limited-time item that will be available only until  30 September at $18.90 per set.

Drinks

Taiwan Ginger Red Tea (Hot) $8.50

The perfect tea to complement your Taiwanese meal with its aromatic and soothing qualities.

Classic Milk Tea ( Oolong Based) $6.90

For those who prefer it cold, this slightly sweet option with chewy bubbles offers a refreshing contrast to the savoury dishes.

Verdict

If you are craving for Taiwanese Meal,  a visit to Typhoon Cafe should satisfy your tastebuds. The menu is pretty extensive, with a good selection of Taiwanese favourite dishes, including signatures like Taiwan Lu Rou Rice and Taiwanese Beef Noodles. Dessert is a must to complete your meals here.

We recommend getting the bundle set that gives you a choice of 1 side, 1 main and 1 beverage at $15.90 for a better deal.

As for the service, we do love the casual, laid-back atmosphere. The staff were also very attentive during our meal. A return visit is a must for Typhoon Cafe,
