LUMOS AURO V2 Review: Official Certified Netflix & YouTube

The LUMOS AURO has an upgrade!

Almost 3 years ago, we reviewed the LUMOS AURO that took the local projection world by storm. This year, the LUMOS AURO has returned with the new LUMOS AURO V2.

First Impression: LUMOS AURO vs LUMOS AURO V2

Straight out of the box, we noticed a significant difference. Gone was the rectangular shape and a squarish LUMOS AURO V2 came in. In terms of bulk, while the LUMOS AURO V2 sits taller, it takes less real estate with its smaller footprint. It even shed its weight, coming at 2kg vs the original 3kg.

In terms of look, it has caught up with time. It is sleeker with its curvy corners and matt metallic finish with dashes of black strips. This design should sit well with modern decor.

It also comes with a protective lens cap to keep your lens dust-free when it's not in use. It also comes with a Free HDMI, remote, and power cable.

The change is more than just the surface. Underneath the hood are many improvements that will make this upgrade worthwhile.

Features

1 Officially Certified Netflix + YouTube + Prime with a speedy new Interface

Beware of projectors claiming to have 'build in Netflix and YouTube". Unless it is certified, loading time can be draggy.

Moreover, there are times when you require an external mouse to move through the screen as the remote control is not compatible with the device. With the LUMOS AURO V2, controls are done via the remote with dedicated buttons for YouTube, Netflix and Prime Video. Netflix's screen can now be navigated with the remote control like you will do with a Smart TV.

With LUMOS AURO V2 certification, you will get 3x faster loading time with minimum lags. We can attest to this with almost lag-free timing comparable to our experience with Android. Moreover, you will also experience the highest resolution in this up-to-date version with a more user-friendly interface.

Other apps you can download include Disney+, TikTok and more from the App Stock available in the unit.

Watching TikTok on the big screen with comments on the side is an interesting experience.

2 Built-in IOS Android phone casting apps for Inbuilt Phone Mirroring

In the past, it was not uncommon to use a third-party casting app to cast your screen from the phone to the projector. This results in a slow and unstable connection. LUMOS AURO V2 built-in IOS and Android casting app address the issue and provide a reliable and speedy connection.

During our test, it was lag-free. Note that some apps on your phone (such as Starhub TV) may have screen-casting limitations.

3 Autofocus with Auto Keystone Correction

An improvement over the original LUMOS AURO will be the autofocus and auto keystone correction.

The setup is almost instant, with minor adjustments on the initial setup. Once that is done, auto-focus works like a charm. It's a timesaver that allows you to watch your favourite show almost immediately instead of wasting time making adjustments.

Regardless of the positioning of the LUMOS AURO V2, you can be assured of a balanced screen with keystone correction.

4 Inbuilt Dolby Audio Dual

The sound quality of the LUMOS AURO V2 has improved significantly with the certification. Dolby Audio dual speakers system provides a dynamic, full-bodied sound and powerful bass. With this improvement, there is no need to use external speakers to enjoy your movies.

We think the sound from this unit surpasses even our television in terms of depth and volume.

5 Native 1080p Resolution with Bright 6000 lumens

You need at least a 1080p resolution for quality projectors to make the picture crisp. LUMOS AURO V2 does precisely that. Check out how sharp and vibrant the chameleon looks straight out of the device without any enhancement.

LUMOS AURO V2 also come with 6000 lumens. Compared to the industry standard 3000 lumens, this provides a brighter, more vivid image in darkness.

While the Brighter Lumens also make viewing possible in a lit room, we suggest drawing the curtains and projecting them on a texture-free wall or a projector screen to enhance the scene.

Another plus is that you can adjust the colour contrast with either built-in presets or custom settings. We have not seen this in previous renditions, so this addition was a pleasant surprise.

6 Massive 300 inches of screen

While our projector screen is only 100 inches big, the LUMOS AURO V2 can project screen sizes from 50 to 300 inches. If you have a wall that caters to that size, it will make viewing sports or movies an immersive experience.

On top of that, at LUMOS AURO V2 under $500 pricepoint, it sure beats footing out hundreds of thousands of dollars to get a TV screen the size of 300 inches.

7 Only 1.5m needed

To get a decent-size projection, you only need 1.5m. 1.5m will give you an output of a 50-inch screen. This means even if your room is small, if it can fit a bed, you can use the LUMOS AURO V2.

Got a bigger room? Well, that just means you have space for a bigger screen projection.

8 Connectivity

There are 2 USB slots, 1 HDMI slot and a 3.5mm headphone input. You can connect your PlayStation and Xbox to it to enhance the playing experience.

Verdict

If you are in the market for a decent projection with the latest bells and whistles at an affordable price. Look no further. Getting one is almost a no-brainer at a sweet price of $498, with certifications on top-tier premium projectors priced double or more of the LUMOS AURO V2.

As for the LUMOS branding, it has been in Singapore's market for around 4 years. Its track record and positive reviews make it a trustworthy and recommended brand.
