The Muffin Man Tea Shop London Review: Perfect spot for English Tea

Fancy a cuppa?

If you are looking for a classical English Tea spot in London, should The Muffin Man Tea Shop be on your list.

When you google for high tea in London, you will likely find places like the Ritz, Fortnum & Mason, and the Savory on the list. While these are the usual spots tourists will make a beeline for, for £60 to £80, it costs a pretty penny. We wanted to experience English Tea in London, but the prices put us off.

At the suggestion of our Facebook Fans, we decided to head to The Muffin Man Tea Shop at Kensington for high tea. To our delight, the Afternoon Tea set was a decent £33.50 for 2!

The Muffin Man Tea Shop

There was a short queue when we reached on a weekday afternoon. There was no reservation, but we got a seat within half an hour. We reckoned that weekend crowds would be bigger, so do make a reservation if you intend to visit on weekends.

The Muffin Man Tea Shop is a traditional tea house. The white and green walls with chandeliers give a very old-school English vibe. If you want to experience a no frills traditional tea, this is the place to go.

The crowd is a mix of European and Asian clientele. When we were there, we heard some Singaporean accents, so our guess was that it is also a popular place for tourists.

The Food

3 Tier Afternoon Tea for 2 (£33.50)

We ordered the 3-Tier Afternoon Tea for 2.

This set comes in 3-Tiers. The first Tier is a variety of 4 Mini cakes

The 2nd tier comes with Scones with Strawberry Jam and Devon Cream

The 3-tier has 3 finger sandwiches. You are given a choice of fillings from Cucumber, Tomato, Ploughmans, Egg Mayonnaise, and Cress, or Smoked Salmon. You can also opt for white, wholemeal, brown multi-seed, and gluten-free bread.

The set also comes with a choice of coffee or a Pot of Muffin Own Blend Tea. Since we are here for tea, it was no surprise what we chose.

Muffin Man Breakfast (£11.95)

To add to our meal, we had the Muffin Man Breakfast.

This set has scrambled eggs with sausage, bacon, beans, Toast & Butter, Jam, Marmalade, Tea or coffee. You can add on sides if you wish.

Verdict

We did enjoy the experience of dining in a quaint English Teahouse in London. The prices were reasonable, and the ambience was perfect for the experience. If you are in London and want an affordable Tea Session, we think The Muffin Man Tea Shop is worth a stop.

Getting there

The nearest underground is High Street Kensington. From there, it is just a short 5-minute walk to The Muffin Man Tea Shop.
