Khao Kaeng @ Machperson : Affordable Thai Fare by Thai Chef

Khao Kaeng, a new Thai restaurant nestled along Macpherson Road, promises an enticing dining experience steeped in authenticity.

With no GST AND Service charge, together with an attractive grand opening promotion offering a choice of fish at just $8 with a $50 nett spend, it's worth checking out!

Ambiance

The restaurant is hidden from sight. Nestled in a row of eateries, it could easily be missed from the outside.

Step inside, it has a cosy and inviting atmosphere that is perfect for a casual meal.HAIOHere are the dishes I had tried

Prawn Cake

Crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside, the prawn cakes were flavorful and satisfying, making them a perfect appetiser.

Green Curry Chicken

Rich and aromatic, this green curry was packed with flavour and beautifully complemented by tender chicken pieces. This is not the soupy version but one with the right thickness. The balance of spice and creaminess made it a dish worth trying.

Grilled River  Prawn

The tiger prawn looked promising, visually impressive and well-presented. However, the flavour was somewhat bland, lacking the punch one might expect from a Thai dish.

Stir-Fried Kangkong with Oyster Sauce

This surprise dish stole the show!

The kangkong was expertly stir-fried, retaining its crunch while the oyster sauce added a delightful depth of flavour. Unlike the usual kangkong I tried, this was cooked well without the sandy texture. It is probably one of the best kangkong I had in a while.

Steamed Fish with Lime

Normally, this would set us back $28. We were there for the opening promotion and snagged this for just $8. It was so worth it. Ot could have been a tad more sourish but for the price, I am just being picky.

I am unsure if the promotion is still ongoing, so do check with Khao Kaeng before heading down.

Drinks

They have a variety of drinks. Since this is a Thai restaurant, what is more apt than Thai Milk Tea or Lemograss drink?

Verdict

Overall, Khao Kaeng offers a solid dining experience with an extensive menu that invites exploration.

With a wide array of dishes to sample, there’s plenty of incentive to return and try more of what this little restaurant has to offer.
