Mekong Delta Geylang Vietnamese Restaurant Review - More than 200 Dishes worth trying!

Geylang is no stranger to good food.

With traditional shophouses lining its streets, it’s often the unsung, lesser-hyped places that hide the real gems. On one of our recent #hungrywackyeats hunts, we stumbled upon Mekong Delta, a Vietnamese eatery that quietly boasts over 200 items on the menu. Yes, 200. That’s not a typo.

Why so many choices? We had to find out for ourselves.

First Impressions – Simple, Homely and Green

Tucked within a row of old-school Geylang shophouses, Mekong Delta doesn’t scream for attention from the outside. Step in and you’ll be greeted by green-painted walls, basic furnishings, and a no-frills setting that has a homely charm. There's a humble, comforting vibe that lets food do the talking.

The Food – A Taste of the Delta

Here’s what we tried from the endless menu (well, just four since there are only 2 of us):

Vietnamese Spring Rolls

Fresh, clean flavours, though a little less herbaceous than expected. If you’re not a fan of mint overload, this might actually be the version for you.

Fried Pork Belly with Lemongrass Chilli

The star of the meal. Perfectly crispy pork belly, topped with a generous spread of fried garlic that clings onto every bite. The lemongrass chilli adds just the right kick. This dish alone is worth the trip.

Braised Chicken with Chilli and Lemongrass

This one surprised us. Unlike the usual Vietnamese stir-fries, this had a unique texture – a little chewy but in a good way with a rich, savoury profile that lingered after every bite. A comforting dish you won't find in your average pho joint.

Goby Fish Sour Soup

Truth be told, goby fish isn’t quite our thing, but the tangy, balanced soup broth makes the dish. We’d order the soup again, just with a different protein.

Verdict

Yes. With over 200 dishes on the menu, this place demands repeat visits. While not every dish will be a hit for everyone (we’re looking at you, goby), there’s more than enough to keep curious tastebuds satisfied.

Add in the casual, homestyle setting, and you’ve got a reliable go-to for hearty Vietnamese comfort food – especially if you’re craving crispy pork belly done right.
