Burwood Chinatown Sydney - Neon Lights, Street bites and Seriously Good Vibes
Do you know that Sydney have 2 'Chinatowns'?
Technically, there is only 1 official Chinatown, but there is an up and coming area with their own distinct Chinese culture presence that can be easily mistaken for Sydney 2nd Chinatown.
If you've dropped by the Sydney Haymarket Chinatown night market lately, you might've left feeling a little… underwhelmed. A handful of food stalls, a light buzz in the air, and you’re done in under 30 minutes. It’s alright for a quick stroll, but if you’re hunting for a night market with real bite (pun intended), you need to hop on a train and head west to Burwood Chinatown.

Tucked away in the heart of Burwood, this open-air dining precinct feels like you’ve stepped into a neon-lit food haven straight out of a bustling Asian city. What sets it apart? The vibe. Burwood Chinatown is drenched in colourful neon signs, glowing lanterns, and an aesthetic that screams Instagram me! It’s not just about the food – though trust us, there’s plenty of that too – it’s the whole experience.

The space is lined with food stalls and small eateries offering everything from juicy skewers to bubbling hotpots, Korean fried chicken to handmade dumplings, and even exotic bites like grilled squid on a stick. In the central courtyard, you’ll find even more street food options, and best of all – there’s actual seating available. Yes, real tables and chairs where you can sit down, dig in, and soak in the atmosphere.

The night market happens every Thursday to Sunday, kicking off in the late afternoon and buzzing till late. Compared to Sydney’s Chinatown, Burwood offers more variety, more space, and a whole lot more energy.
