Cheeky Bee Hoon Katong – Malaysian-Style Bee Hoon with a Gourmet Twist

Tucked away in Katong, Cheeky Bee Hoon is a charming hole-in-the-wall eatery that brings a nostalgic touch to your noodle fix.

Step inside and you’ll spot retro memorabilia like vintage posters, coin phones and old weighing scales — all adding to its old-school charm.

Cheeky Bee Hoon is the brainchild of Chef Darwin, best known for his French-Japanese fusion restaurant JIADA. Here, he swaps fine dining for a more grounded goal, to bring gourmet flavours to everyday comfort food.

The Food

This isn’t your usual bee hoon. Inspired by Malaysian-style noodles, the Cheeky Bee Hoon Signature ($11.90) comes in both soup and dry versions. It may be the priciest dish on the menu, but it’s worth every cent. Each bowl is loaded with prawns, meatballs, minced pork and lala, simmered in a rich, umami-packed broth.

The dry version is equally addictive, with a smoky wok hei aroma that clings to every strand of noodle. Between the two, it’s honestly hard to pick a favourite as both hit the spot.

We also tried the satay, available in beef, pork or chicken. Each skewer was chunky, smoky and tender — the kind of satay that makes you wish you ordered more.

Verdict

If you are craving a comforting bowl of noodles, Cheeky Bee Hoon won’t disappoint. It’s proof that good food doesn’t have to be fancy, just cheeky, hearty and full of flavour.
