Singapore Primary one registration 2013 guide

Source : MOE

Over the years, Primary one registration has been the 'highlight' of a parenting journey of most families in Singapore. It is the time when first timers and old hands scourged for information on available places in Primary School for their children. Each parent hopes that they can either snag a school near their homes or a renowned school for their children.

This year is the year our first born will be registering for the all important Primary one. As such we will embark on the same journey countless of parents had traveled. Being freshies at this, we decide to compile our information for a quick guide to Primary One registration.

The Registration Phase - Datelines and Results.
Registration starts from July 4th.
It will be open for children born between 2 Jan 2007 and 1 Jan 2008 ( both dates inclusive)
It will be done on phases. The phases are as follow
  • Phase 1
Registration : 4/5th July
For a child who has a sibling studying in the primary school of choice
  • Phase 2A (1)
Registration : 9th July , Results 11 July
a)For a child whose parent is a former student of the primary school and who has joined the alumni association as a member
(b) For a child whose parent is a member if the School Advisory / Management Committee
  • Phase 2A (2)
Registration : 15/16th July , Results 18 July
(a) For a child whose parent or sibling has studied in the primary school of choice
(b) For a child whose parent is a staff member of the primary school of choice
Note: There are no distance considerations or limited vacancies from Phase 1-2A from past records (Although in theory, it can happen) If you can secure a place in these phases, do seriously consider this option) Thereafter 50% of remaining space will go to Phase 2B and 50% to Phase 2C
  • Phase 2B
Registration 22/23 July , Results 26th July
(a) For a child whose parent has joined the primary school as a parent volunteer not later than 1 year
before registration and has given at least 40 hours of voluntary service to the school by regisrtation date
(b) For a child whose parent is a member endorsed by the church/clan directly connected with the primary school
(c) For a child whose parent is endorsed as an active community leader
Note : If you are living >2km and at certain schools > 1 km, it may be wise not to register as parent volunteer as you may not even stand a chance for ballot. Do check the Balloting History here for more information
  • Phase 2C
Registration : 30/31 July and 1st Aug , Results 6 Aug
For all Children who are eligible for Primary One in the following year and are not yet registered in a primary school
Note: This is probably the most stressful phase as it is deem as the last chance phase for many parents. Try to too leave it to chance , i.e. applying for a place where your chances are 1% vs another where it is 100%. Otherwise, your child may just end up in a school considerably far from your home. Stay sane and good luck!

  • Phase 2C Supplementary
Registration 13/14th Aug, Results 20th Aug
For a child who is not registered in school after phase 2C
Note : Singaporeans and Singapore PR qualify for Phase 1 to Phase 2C. Singaporeans will get absolute priority over Singapore PR when it comes to balloting
  • Phase 3
Registration 29th Aug, Results 30th Aug
For a child who is neither a Singapore Citizen nor a Singapore Permanent Resident
