Sunway Lagoon for Kids

Welcome to Malaysia multi-park destination, Sunway lagoon, Asia’s best attraction.

This is the tagline of Sunway Lagoon, let’s see if it can live up to its reputation. There are over 80 rides and attractions awaiting us to explore and experience at the theme park.
This vacation is part of our June School Holidays activities.
This is our second theme park for the month after Universal Studios Singapore

This will be the highlight of our vacation.

Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa
Sunway Pyramid
This is our first time to Sunway Lagoon; we had the 3 in 1 park tickets
We are allowed to explore the Water Park , Amusement Park and The Wildlife Park. Do note the park does not allow repeated entry on the same day, so be prepared for 1 full day at the park.

Little Zimbawe

Water Park
Our first stop was at the Waters of Africa. We made a stop at Little Zimbabwe. It looks like a smaller version of the Port of Lost Wonder @ Sentosa. This is a great place for younger kids and it is relatively quiet compared to the main pools.

Little Zimbawe

We spend about 30 minutes there trying to be Zulus of Africa

Congo Challenge
Daddy and Mummy took the opportunity to try the Congo Challenge next to Little Zimbabwe. Daddy says it reminds him of the defunct Fantasy Island in Sentosa

Paparazzi at the Surf Beach

We decided we wanted to explore the Surf Beach . This is the world's largest man-made surf beach with real surfing! The surf area was only activated after 6pm.

Surf's up!

In the meantime, we decided to work on our tan while gazing at Asia ’s highest Man-Made Erupting Volcano. There are at least 3 attractions that made it to the Guiness world of Records.
I had a great time learning how to swim.

Surf Beach
We were there at about 1030am and spend 3 hours there!

Tip : Be there early as the beach gets crowded during the afternoon

After a swim, we decided to deposit our swim gear at the lockers (MYR 5) This frees us to explore the rest of the park. A quick lunch at the Food Arena and we are off to the Amusement Park.

Tip : After a swim, do get a locker, you don't want to carry stuff around the park as it is quite huge

Dancing at Sunway

Lockers at Sunway

We pass by Zulu walk. There are more rides there such as African pythons. The rides are more suited for older kids.

Zulu Walk

Amusement Park
This is the second park we visited for the day. We figured after lazing around on the surf beach, it would be good for us to enjoy some rides.

Tip : The amusement park would be a good second stop to keep the kids awake for the afternoon!

Many parks to explore!

We took a few kiddy rides at the World of Adventure. We played at the Fun Fair, took the carousal and the wagon wheel. There are other rides such as Lost City of Gold, Pirate’s Revenge, and Tomahawk. However we were too small to qualify for these rides.

Tip : The prizes at the Fun Fair was rather difficult to get. Save your RM4 for other things!

Next up is the the Wild Wild West

Wild wild West

We took the vultures ride. There are more rides here such as Niagara Falls Flume and Grand Canyon River Rapids. We save those rides if we revisit Sunway Lagoon 3 years later :P

Wildlife Park
Our next destination is the Wildlife Park.

Sleepy Tigers
We encountered 2 sleepy Tigers at the Tiger Adventure (Oppposite Tiger Cafe)

The entrance of the Wildlife Park is after the Tiger Adventure.

Tip : Follow the route on the map, this way you will cover all of the attractions.

Animals on display

The Aviary and Nature Walk was nice and educational. It a great place for us to get up close and personal with the animals. The bigger animals are housed in glass enclosure, giving us a good view of the animals. Some enclosures are even better designed compared to our Singapore Zoo!

New animal Exhibits - The Venomous Wacky Duo
We stopped by the Rimba and have some close encounters with reptiles

Rimba Village
You can get up close to the animals there!

Rabbits love
We were looking out for the Lake Monster but they have only these on displays.

Tip : Do note the showtimes, we did not realise that there were showtimes and miss most of the shows

Lake Monsters?
Taking a walk with the Elephants towards the Pet Village. It's a nice little stroll along the river

Elephant Walk

Pet Village

To cap it off, we took a stroll on the Pedestrian Suspension Bridge . This is the World Longest Pedestrian Suspension bridge at 428 Meters. Mummy is proud that I managed to walk through the bridge on my own!

There are 2 other parks at Sunway Lagoon. The Scream Park guarantees screams at the PontiankTheatre of Fear and the Night at the Museum. The Extreme Park will boost your adrenaline with G-Force X and Bungy Jumps. Do note that certain rides are not inclusive in the package and you have to pay extra for it.
The 2 parks are meant for older kids (above 7 for scream parks, above 12 for extreme parks) so we decided to skip it.
Our verdict
The Water Park was a hit with us. We simply love being in the water.
The Amusement park gives us limited rides but could be a boon for families with older kids. However the attractions are not as gleaming new as you would find in other theme parks.
The Wildlife Park was an unexpected hit. In fact, Daddy plans to skip the Zoo for this holiday since we technically had been to one in the Park!
So it this is best Asia's Best attraction?
There are the Universal Studios in Singapore, the Disneyland of Tokyo and Hongkong, Everland of South Korea and even the upcoming Legoland in JB to contend with.
In our humble opinion, it will be a long shot to call it the Best in Asia.
However it is not too far off to call it 'The one with the most variety at one site!'
