Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations
Chinatown : Year of the snake |
It is the family tradition to take at least 1 visit to Chinatown in Singapore during the Chinese New Year celebrations.
Our initial plan was actually to explore Chinatown festive street bazzar for this Chinese New Year celebration. There are more than 500 stores packed with goodies such as Chinese New Year decorations, traditional costumes, cookes, waxed dcks , fresh flowers and more. Our intention to "soak" in the atmosphere was fulfilled, it started to pour 20 minutes into our walkabout.
I guess we have to be careful what we wish for.

Chinese New Year @ Chinatown |
We do encourage you to take a trip down to Chinatown to get your CNY goodies and to partake in the spirit of the Lunar New Year . The best time to go for bargains will be Chinese New Year Eve, but we think the crowds will be too big to enjoy a pleasant stroll with kids.

It may be more interesting to be there in the evening as the annual street light-up in Chinatown would sure to impress the kids. There are also nightly cultural performances at the Kreta Ayer Square and an annual international lion dance competition on 26th and 27th Jan which will showcase top talents from Hong Kong , Taiwan, Malaysia, China and Philippines.
