Meriton World Tower Sydney Review

Mertion World Tower
For our vacation in Sydney, we decided to opt for serviced apartment instead of hotels. As we are travelling in a group of 10, it make more practical sense to get a mulit room apartment vs a hotel. We decided to opt for two 2-bedroom apartments to accommodate us for this trip.

Meriton Serviced Apartments World Tower Sydney
The research was done at tripadvisor. The brand Meriton occupies 4 out of the top 20 hotels in Sydney. Given it's glowing reports, we decided to opt for a Meriton Serviced Apartments. The World Tower was chosen for a few reasons. They are namely
  • Close to the City Centre, Darling Harbour, Chinatown and Qvb
  • Have a monorail station in front of the hotel (Close permanently July 2013)
  • Have a shopping mall World Square within its premises.

First impression
The check in time is at 2pm. However we arrived early at about 10am. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that our preferred room was ready for check in.

Check in was rather smooth. As per usual practise, there is a required charge on your credit card for incidentals. You can opt to pay in cash or credit and we chose to pay in cash at check in. The check in counter is located at the lobby and there should be no problem locating it.
The lobby was functionally decorated. It is not as glamorous as a hotel, but rather it gives out a homely impression similar to a condo lobby.
Counter
There are 4 lifts servicing the apartments. This may be a 75 storey hotel, but from what we observed, the lifts only service level 61 and up. The lobby itself is located at level 10. We are not sure why this is so, given that the lobby is at ground level.

Contary to what we read at Tripadvisors, the wait for the lifts are not that long. There are one or two occasions that we might miss a lift as it was full, but the waiting time did not take more than 5 minutes for each trip.
No party and No excessive noise
We spotted this sign on the way up. We are glad that there is a " No party & no excessive noise" rule. This usually means a peaceful stay at the apartment. Security is also good with the main lobby door only accessible via key card after 8pm.
Let me bring you to our room located at the 63rd floor.

The Rooms
Living room
Living Room
The living room was rather large with acres of space for us to roam about. It has an open concept floor plan with the kitchen and dining room within the same space. There is a laundry room on the side as well.
Living and dining area includes flat screen TV with selected Foxtel channels and DVD/CD player. Internal laundry includes top loader washing machine, tumble dryer, dry iron and ironing board.
Room Layout
Kitchen
Kitchen
The Gourmet kitchen includes an oven, kettle, stove, microwave, full-sized fridge/freezer and dishwasher. It is well stocked with everything you need to cook. However, we do not recommend 'Zi Char' ( Chinese) cooking as the windows cannot be open, and you may set off the smoke alarm.
Grandma was tempted to cook for us, but luckily we were all occupied with the Sydney attractions for her to find time to do so.
Kitchen appliances
Winter Garden
Dining area
The winter garden doubles up as a dining room. It is separated by a curtain or door from the living room. This is a great spot for dining, especially in the evenings.
We simply love the view from the winter room.
The view
It was an eye-opener for us as we were used to low-rise views back home.
Study Area
Study area
There is a small study area should you need one for those travelling to Sydney for business. During our stay, we have free daily wireless access up to 1 GB of use. Really useful if you need to stay in touch.
Bedrooms
Main bedroom
The property comes with 2 bedrooms. The bigger bedroom has an attached toilet with it. Each bedroom has either 1 king zip bed or 2 single beds. Do state your preference when booking the rooms
Bathrooms
There are two full bathrooms with shower (one with bath/shower), handheld hair dryer and plush towels. The one attached to the bedroom is super big. Large enough to accommodate all 4 of us at the same time. Peter Morrissey amenities are replenished on a daily basis.
Beds are made daily as well. If you need to change the bed sheets, do inform the front desk in the morning.

The View
As mentioned earlier, the view from the rooms is awesome. We recommend rooms with darling harbour views. ( You can request it while booking ). In the evening, the flickering lights from the distant houses paint a beautiful canvas.
Beautiful canvas
A major part of the reason we enjoyed this trip was the views we had from the apartment. Day or night, it is a sight to behold.
We love the view!
Surroundings

The location of the apartment is fantastic.

It may be away from Circular Quay, but there are a wide variety of attractions within walking distance. Darling harbour, Hype park, Paddy markets, Chinatown, Qvb are but a mere gentle 20 minutes walk away.

Another plus for this apartment would be the view from the rooms on Saturday night at 830pm. For those who booked the Darling Harbour view, you can enjoy fireworks from the comfort of your room. an excellent feather in the cap for Meriton World Tower.
Fireworks!
Apartments vs Hotels
Why we choose an apartment
  • Spacious
  • A cheaper option compared to the hotel if you need more than 1 room
  • Have your own kitchen ( great for preparing kids meals for the day)
There is no in-room dining nor daily breakfast included. Fret not, as there are numerous dining options from fast food such as McDonald's, Hungry Jacks, Japanese food, Din Tai Fung, pizzas, kebabs and many more restaurants nearby.

There is also a Coles supermarket for you to stock up on drinks and food located at the basement.
The big question... Will we return? The short answer is YES !!!

If you are travelling in a family with young kids to Sydney. Keep Meriton World Tower on your list. It would be on top of ours when we revisit Sydney in the future!

  1. Dear The Wacky Duo,

Let us start by saying thank you for such a wonderful review of our World Tower apartments.

We are so glad that our apartments helped in shaping your holiday with the whole family.

The fact that our apartments are so central to the surrounds of Darling Harbour, Chinatown, Circular Quay, QVB and Hyde Park has been a big draw card for our guests since opening the World Tower apartments in 2004.

As you mentioned we are offering free Wi-Fi up to 1GB per day / per apartment, this has been a great initiate across the Meriton Serviced Apartments group and has been really well received by our valued guests.

It’s fantastic to see the reasons in which you chose our apartment hotel over traditional hotel rooms; spacious, greater value and fully self-contained (Kitchen).

The images you have taken also give future guests a great perspective of what our apartments entail and the views available from each room.

Your time and effort you have put into writing this review is greatly appreciated and we look forward to welcoming you back in the very near future.

    Thank you again.

    Meriton Serviced Apartments Management.

  2. We stayed at this exact serviced apartment when we holidayed in Sydney last March. Your toilets look renovated, much nicer than the ones we remembered. Apart from that, it was very clean, comfortable, and location is great just like you said. and we would choose to stay there again if we ever return to Sydney for a holiday trip. Actually, the thing we loved best was that we could do our laundry every day, so we could pack light for our trip. We didn't get the spectacular Darling harbour fireworks display like you had, even though we stayed up for it! Our view must have been obscured!

    1. Hi Adelene , we had 2 apartments , same layout but fittings differ . For fireworks, the center and the left stack ( building facing darling harbour ) will have the better view. We got the center stack for this trip :)

  3. I checked out the website of the apartment and while it looks really fantastic but is it worth staying in an apartment if it is just my husband and I? Looking at the list of hotels available on here http://www.trivago.sg/sydney-44310/hotel most of the hotels are cheaper and then the apartment.

Do you have any recommendations for hotels instead? Thank you so much!

  4. Thank you for the review.. Detailed and well written. and Esp the pics of your adorable boys. I know its been a while since 2013 but im glad that based from the current tripadvisor website, they still uphold the quality of their establishment. Planning for a spring vacation with our family of 4 (our boy is 6 while our girl is 10) and this might seal the deal with regards to accomodation. thanks again! :)
