Cowabunga! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle is back.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle preview
Cowabunga !

Hands up if you are one of those that had been living under a rock and have not heard about these iconic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (TMNT). Generation Xers like me would have probably grown up watching the cartoon from the 1980s and 1990s. These turtles may be around for decades, but they are given a new lease of life in today's pop culture with a reboot Movie version for 2014.

The new members of TMNT
Since we scored tickets to the preview of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movie on Wednesday night, I thought it was a great opportunity to introduce what used to be one of my favourite characters to my boys. That way we could share more common interests to expand our play ideas.

Given that it is produced by Michael Bay of Transformers fame, we do expect a high octane movie for the evening.
Thanks Nickelodeon

We are not going to give the plot of the show away. Those familiar with TMNT will know that there would be mutated turtles, who are teenagers well apt in the art of Ninjutsu , fighting an evil boss known as Shredder.

Along the way, there are characters such as the master, Splinter and their main human confidant April ( played by Megan Fox)

Er... I think I just gave the plot away.

TMNT is not your classic cartoon show, nor does it deem itself to be a masterpiece. There are Wolverine like claws from Shredder, but this is not Xmen. Rather take it with a pinch of salt and enjoy it for what it is. A movie mainly for pure entertainment for kids and young at heart.
Shredder
The violence in the show may be a tad disturbing but it it not all gore and blood. Look underneath the shell of the movie (ahem punt punt ) and you will see the real flesh.

It is a movie about family , albeit a mutated one. It is also a movie that teaches the importance of brotherhood. Stay as a family, fight like one and together you will be strong.

A perfect opportunity to teach my boys the importance of joining forces instead of fighting each other all the time.

My favourite character will probably be Raphael. This turtle had the most flesh out part in the movie. A self made tough guy who is actually a softie at heart, especially when it comes to family.

As for the boys, they have their own personal favourite , from the humorous Michaelangelo, to the geekie Donatello and the fearless leader Lenoardo.

This may not be the most suitable show for the little ones given certain violent scenes, but if you see it through cartoon eyes, ' Tom and Jerry' would have been a worse candidate.

Regardless, Little Lou did exclaimed that 'it's a good show' at the end of it. So if he is their target audience, the show would have hit the mark.

TMNT is now open at Cinemas in Singapore.
