How to win at Marina Bay Carnival: 5 Games that you can win + 5 games to avoid

It's time to visit the most significant carnival ever in Singapore - Prudential Marina Bay Carnival.

Set in the heart of the Marina Bay enclave, the Marina Bay Carnival is split into 2 main areas -  The Promontory @ Marina Bay and the Bayfront Event Space. Based on what we have experienced, the Bayfront Event Space has a better selection of carnival games and toys.

As avid arcade/ carnival fans, our main intention was to beat the Carnival Games. After all, there are ONE MILLION plushies to be given away as prizes during this carnival. Indeed, we can get our hands on one of them.

We are no pros, just kids with plenty of 'experience'. After having a go at the games, we come to the conclusion that some games are more winnable than others. If you are heading there, consider considering this before you start your carnival games. Since games start at $5 per play, it is good not to simply 'throw-away ' your hard-earned cash.

Can we Win one?

Here is our take on 5 carnival games you can most likely win and 5 games to avoid.

5 Carnival Games to Avoid

Ping Pong Rolldown
Ping Pong Rolldown

Location: The Promontory

Why Avoid?
You are given three ping pong balls to roll. The minimum to win a prize is 8 points. If you see the board, you must aim for at least a 4 and two other numbers to win. However, the 4 has a much smaller opening with 0 on either side. You need to miss the first try to win. Mathematically, it is tough to beat.

Location: The Promontory

Why Avoid?
Before our trip down, we had seen several videos of winners from this stall. At that time, it took only 100 points to win. When we were there, they changed it to at least 140 points to win a small toy. Given only 3 chances and a minimal amount of 100 and 50 points on the board. Your options are slim.

Most of the numbers are 5, 10 or 20. It is tough to win from this stall unless you get three 50-point rolls or at least one 100-point roll. Again, it is not a fair chance if you are defeated mathematically.

Milk Jug Toss

Location: Bayfront Event Space

Why Avoid?
This required a lot of accuracy. It is not impossible, but it may not be suitable for younger kids. With the height limitation of smaller kids, it prevents you from getting the right angle to toss the ball.

Shooting Arcade
Why Avoid

Location: Bayfront Event Space

Why Avoid?
As a marksman, Dad loves shooting games. However, they took off the aiming sight in front for this game. With it,  you can have a decent aim. Your shots will go everywhere except for the target.

Ring Bottle Toss

Location: Bayfront Event Space

Why Avoid
We had seen people walking away with giant bears. However, in a round with 30 players, only one  (or none) will win. The odds are 1 in 30. It is all luck and hardly any skill ( unless you are a seasoned carnival game player. You may get a giant bucket of rings, but it is as good as tossing your money away.

If carnival games are not your cup of tea, there are rides for kids and adults.

Rides for Kids

Be aware that a ride costs at least $5 upwards. Some may baulk at the price. It is hard to blame them. After all, a slide down the tower that lasts only 10 seconds may not be the best way to spend the cash.

A more economical choice will be the 4 minutes of jumping on the trampoline for the exact cost.
Carnival rides such as the Carousel and Pirate ships are available for kids, too.

Rides for Bigger Kids

For the thrill-seekers, there are a couple of noteworthy rides to consider. The Starflyer, Mach 5 and Euro Coaster are new and worth a ride... if you dare to take them.

Food Street

If you are hungry, grab a bite at the food street. There is a decent selection of unique local delights to discover.

To maximize your outing, we highly recommend getting tickets from Klook. The tickets are purchased online and redeemed at the entrance. The queue is shorter than getting your preloaded card from the ticket booth.

They have a good deal at $45 consisting of a card with $35 credits (for games/rides) and 2 Tiger Beers or 4 non-alcoholic drinks (Street Value about $15-20). What's more, quote MBCFIVE and get an additional $5 off the ticket price for this bundle.

That means only $40 for a $55 deal. Not too shabby.

Alternatively, book a credit-only pass  ( 50 credits) at S$50
