Heading to Universal Studios Hollywood for a holiday?



Plan a stay in Sheraton Universal Hollywood to complete your experience. During our self drive holiday in US , we made a pit stop in Los Angeles. On our agenda was the famous trio of Themeparks - Disneyland, Disney Adventure Park and Universal Studios Hollywood.

Originally, we had intended to make Anaheim our main port of call ( that is where Disney is located). However, after analyzing the time we would spend on the road between Hollywood and Anaheim, we decided to find an accommodation in Hollywood. After extensive research, we landed at Sheraton Universal Hollywood.

Wall of Stars

Given Universal Studios Hollywood isolated location, there are only 2 hotels that are technically within walking distance to the theme park. They are the Sheraton Universal Hollywood and Hilton Universal City. We could have opted for cheaper hotels near to Universal Hollywood. However, if we were to include parking fees, they would work out close to the price of hotels near Universal Studios. These 2 hotels provide complimentary transportation straight to the park, so it would mean you do not have to pay double for parking in Universal.

Sheraton at Christmas

Moreover, the location made the hotels more secure compared to those in Hollywood. With safety and cost savings in mind, we opted for Sheraton Universal Hollywood as we had a better deal than Hilton. Moreover, the rooms were recently updated in Sheraton Universal Hollywood, so it was a bonus to enjoy a fresh room.

Checking in

Checking in was a breeze. We parked at the carpark located next to the hotel and checked in at the lobby. At the lobby was a bar and seating area. The hotel also has a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Since we are located close to Universal Citywalk, we head there for our meals and did not sample the hotel restaurant.

For fitness buff, there is a fitness center and a terrace pool. We were there during Winter so we decided to give the pool a miss. It does look inviting especially during the summer months.

Our room was located on the 6th floor. There was not much of a view as we faced the shorter buildings' rooftop. You could request a higher floor where you book your stay.

The Room

The rooms available at Sheraton Universal Hollywood comes in a combination of single beds, double beds and suite. Since we travel in a family of 4, we took the double queen beds.

Do note that there is also the option of double beds. A double bed is smaller than queen size in the USA and is meant to sleep one adult and a VERY small child. For comfort, we recommend choosing the Queen option if you travel with children above 5.

With newly renovated rooms, the decor was distinctively modern and clean. The room size itself was not very big. With a smart layout, they managed to squeeze in a couch at the corner. Sheraton also provided free wifi, a bonus for us during the stay.

Sheraton Signature Sleep Experience

The bed itself was comfortable with Sheraton Signature Sleep Experience. It's hard not to fall asleep especially after the long drive from Anaheim.

The room came with Starbucks Coffee and a coffee maker. Like most hotels in USA, there are no complimentary water, so buy a few bottles from the gas station to keep you hydrated.
The toilet itself is clad in clean white with a shower area. There is no tub but that is fine with us.

Some amenities are provided such as soap and shampoo.

Location, Location, Location

Overall, Sheraton Universal Hollywood is an excellent base to explore the attractions around Hollywood. Here are some of the places you could visit when you are there.

Universal Studios Hollywood

The main reason why we choose Sheraton Universal Hollywood is Universal Studios Hollywood. The theme park is located within walking distance of the hotel. However, you do not need to walk because the hotel provides complimentary transportation to the doorstep. You get the convenience from the parking hassle and save on exorbitant parking fees as well.

What's not to like?
Universal Citywalk

Universal Citywalk

The complimentary shuttle also meant you have access to Universal Citywalk. Universal Citywalk is like an open mall located next to Universal Studios Hollywood. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from as well as shops for your retail therapy. Considering the location and security, it is pretty safe to walk around Universal Citywalk, even at night. This is an option that might not be possible elsewhere in Hollywood.

Hollywood Walk of Fame

Located only minutes away from Sheraton Universal Hollywood, you can drive down to the heart of Hollywood and step on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Don't forget to make a stop at TCL Chinese Theatre to spot your favourite star handprint or footprint.

Lake Hollywood Park

 You have not been to Hollywood until you take a photo with the Hollywood sign. For most, they would head to Griffith Observatory for a view of the Hollywood sign. Though Giffith is a popular destination, you only get to see the sign from a distance.

We have a secret spot for you to take awesome photos with the Hollywood sign. Located not too far from Sheraton Universal Hollywood is Lake Hollywood Park. The Park is openly and accessible to the public, and there is barely a crowd there. Head there if you want a photo with the Hollywood Sign!
