NDP Mini Buffet
No ticket to NDP parade?

If you are like us who are stuck at home during NDP, why not make it a celebration at home to commemorate Singapore's birthday. With the super long weekend holidays with National Day and Hari Raya Hajii, this would be the perfect weekend to spend time with the family. Gather a few friends and relatives, plan a party with On & On Diners Catering NDP Mini Buffet and enjoy the good food while watching the parade!

About On & On Diners Catering
On & On Diners Catering is a halal-certified caterer that has been bringing traditional local recipes to clients since 2009.  The NDP mini buffet menu is specially curated with familiar local favourites with On & On personal recipe.  The NDP mini buffet consists of 10 dishes with 35 selections for you t choose from.

As they say, the first impression are the most lasting. The food presentation was very pleasing to the eye. Straight out from the box and you could see the effort in the visual appeal of each dish.  You could very well be mistaken that the food came straight out of a chef's kitchen. The colours of the food are gorgeous and inviting as well. Our photos simply do not do it justice.

Lap Cheong Egg Fried Rice
Lap Cheong Egg Fried Rice
The Lap Cheong Egg Fried Rice was a delight. It's dry yet soft texture was pleasing to the tastebuds as there is no hint of oil. We love the crispy Lap Cheong in the rice too.

Alternative - Sambal Belachan Fried Rice / Steamed Jasmine Rice

Signature Seafood Laksa Lemak Goreng
Signature Seafood Laksa Lemak Goreng
We ordered this dish as it is one of the signature dishes of On & On. This was the first time we tried Laska Lemak Goreng and it did not disappoint. It retains the flavour of Laksa without the spiciness associated with it. Great for kids to have a taste of Laksa without the spice.

Alternative - Braised White Bee Hoon with Manila Clams

Australian Broccoli With Pacific Calms
Australian Broccoli With Pacific Calms
For the vegetable option, we choose the Australian Broccoli with Pacific Clams in Abalone Sauce. We loved how fresh the dish was. An excellent choice for veggie lovers IMHO.

Alternatives - Sauteed Leek with Tau Kwa / Spinach with Trio of Egg in Superior Broth

Lovely presentation
Jia Xiang Dou Fu with Seafood
Jia Xiang Do Fu Seafood
Initially, we were expecting the smaller round versions of tofu. Instead, each piece of Tofu is the big square version. There is a little hint of tofu smell and the dish was very agreeable with its generous portion of seafood.

Alternative : Ma La Xiang Guo / Wok Fried White Pepper Calms
Seafood Delight

Teochew Style Braised Duck with Peanut
Teochew Style Braised Duck with Peanuts

For a heritage dish, we decided to go along with Teochew Style Braised Duck with Peanuts. There are chicken dishes available but we wanted to try something different. The dish did not disappoint. The duck was tender and the taste was balanced. The only thing we think it could be improved would be to provide chilli sauce for this dish. After all, Singaporeans love Chilli!

Alternative: Lam Rendang / Ayam Lemak Chili Pad/ Nanyang Style Curry Chicken Wings with Baby Potatoes
Fresh off the oven

Honey Glazed Sesame Chicken
Honey Glazed Sesame Chicken
Our chicken dish was the Honey Glazed Sesame Chicken. It consists of Fried Chicken in Honey glazed sauce. The chicken pieces were crunchy. We love the dry and not too oily texture too. An excellent choice.  There are healthier options such as Steam Herbal Chicken with Red Dates and Black Fungus if you are looking for less fried food.

Alternatives : Szechuan Gong Bao Chicken with Cashews / Steamed Herbal Chicken with Red Dates & Black Fungus / Steamed Hainanese Chicken with Ginger Scallion Relish / Prawn Paste Chicken

Crunchy!
Buttery Salted Egg Yolk Dish
Buttery Salted Egg Yolk Fish
For our fish dish, it was a no brainer. We had to go for the Buttery Salted Egg Yolk Fish. Why?

Because we are Singaporeans and it is well established that locals love anything with Salted Egg Yolk on it. True to taste. the Salted Egg Yolk dominates the dish. You smell more like a salted egg than fish after this dish!

Alternatives: Sweet & Sour Fish with Nata De Coco / Crispy Assam Fish with Pineapples / Malaysia Style Creamy Butter Fish

Tofu Prawn in Chili Crab Sauce ( Served with Golden Mantous)
Tofu Prawn in Chili Crab Sauce

For our seafood option, we choose the Tofu Prawn in Chili Crab Sauce. The main reason for choosing this. The Mantous and Chili Crab Sauce. One of the reasons why we love to eat Chili crabs is because of the sauce. So we could not pass this up. Instead of crab, we were treated to prawns instead. The Chili Crab sauce was not as spicy as we initially thought. This meant that this dish is great for kids too!

Alternatives: Golden Buttery Cereal Prawns / Tempura Prawn with Wasabi Mayo / Cantonese Typhoon Shelter Prawns

Homemade Otah in Banana Leaf
Homemade Otah in Banana Leaf
For our side dish, the Homemade Otah was our pick. The Otah was surprisingly fresh. It was spicy in a good way. This probably is one of our favourite dishes. It helps that the portion is generous too especially since it tasted so good.

Alternatives : Seafood Wanton with Mayo / Homemade Rojak
Spicy Otah

Chilled Almond Jelly with Longan
Chilled Almond Jelly with Longan

To wrap up our feast, we had the chilled Almond Jelly with Longan to cool things off.  Having a cold dish at the end is a great way to settle down those tastebuds that had been pampered with delicious food. There are 6 dessert options to choose from the list

Alternatives: Bo Bo Cha Cha ( Hot) / Chilled Honeydew Sago / Chilled Cheng Teng / Chilled Mango Sago with Pomelo Sacs / Homemade Red Bean Soup with glutionous ball.

Overall, we love the dining experience provided by On & On. In terms of both visual appeal and taste, this has to be one the better caterers we had for a mini buffet. Having a mini buffet is also great for a small gathering. You need not worry about what food to get and it does not come with the chunky set up of a full buffet. We could enjoy our buffet in an intimate setting which is perfect for a gettogether.

You need not worry about utensils too as these are provided by the caterers.  We also like the fact that there was a laminated menu that came with the set.

The food timing was also clearly stated on the packaging and you would have 3 hours to consume your food from the time the food arrives.

The NDP Mini Buffet is available to order. You do not need to have it specifically on National Day as you have the option to choose the dates. Price would be at $16.90 per pax ( $18.08 with GST) and the minimum pax would be at 15.
