Spider-Man to leave Marvel Cinematic Universe : Sony and Disney to split!

Spiderman will not be in future MCU...

Our Peter Tingle is on high alert.  As reported by Deadline, Sony and Disney had parted ways. Marvel Studio President Kevin Feige will not be producing any future Spider-Man films because of a failure of Disney and Sony Pictures to reach new terms.

The current deal was that Sony would foot the bill and get 95% of the revenue. Disney proposes a 50/50 finance agreement and Sony refused. With no counter deals, it would possibility mark the end of Spider-Man as we have grown to love.

Original Deal
Disney and Sony had originally signed a 6 film agreement, 3 solos and 3 other films. Tom Holland as Spiderman had appeared in the following films

  • Captain America: Civil War (2016)
  • Spider-Man: Homcoming (2017)
  • Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
  • Avengers: End Game (2019)
  • Spider-Man Far from Home (2019)

That means that there is only 1 more Marvel Spiderman Solo film left. Reports stated that there are supposed to be 2 more Spider-Man films in the work to star Tom Holland and director Jon Watts. Under this disagreement, Marvel would have no creative lead in future films if it were to proceed.

Does this mark the end of Spider-Man for Marvel?

With Sony rebooting Venom, there is a chance that they would like to take  Spider-Man solo. Admittedly, it would be easier for Sony than for Marvel to lose Spider-Man due to the vault of characters in the Spider verse.  It would be sad though to have Spider-Man completely written off the MCU. It would make the initial loss due to Thanos snap a little more bearable if we have known this would happen.

The failure to mention Spider-Man during Marvel Phase 4 is probably an early indication that the deal may be called off. With Disney acquiring Fox, perhaps X-Men, Fantastic 4 and even Deadpool could fill the gaps. We guess the Deadpool x Spider-Man film is just a pipedream in the near future.
