Istana Open House August 2 : Going Virtual
Every year, the Istana will be open to the public for a tour. Unfortunately,
this year will be a little different due to Covid19. Instead of opening the gates to the public, the Istana Open House will go online with a special tour of rarely seen features in the Istana.
Unlike the typical Istana tour, viewers of the virtual tour will get a glimpse of the 'bunker', an air-raid shelter located in the cellar. A 14.5 m deep well that sits on the side of the Istana's main building will be another feature that is usually closed to the public.
To get a chance at a glimpse of these rare sights, head to
President Halimah Yacob's Facebook and Instagram on Aug 2 from 10am onwards. This Open House will be open to everyone, unlike the first virtual Open House in May, which was limited to invited guests.
Segments of the National Museum of Singapore and Asian Civilisations Museum will be featured in this open house. You will get to see snippets of National
Museum new interactive series, Zoom into History where people can interact with artefacts from its permanent collection.
For the open house itself, the guest will get to interact with the Government
House Cheese plate which was used in the 1930s to 1950s.
If you can't wait for the Open House, you can read
our guide here. Alternatively, you can head to the
Istana website for a 360 degree tour.
