Third time is not a charm
Daily Dose: Third time is not a charm
There is a saying, 'Third Time is a Charm'. Unfortunately, it does not apply to Singapore in context with the situation at the dorms. This is the 3rd consecutive day that a new dorm cluster emerges despite the fact that dorms were supposedly cleared of the virus less than a week ago on Aug 19.
Once is a fluke, twice is a coincidence, three times a pattern and fourth is standard. Will we see Dorm number 4 today?
1) 51 new Covid19 cases
- 43 Dorms
- 1 Community (SC)
- 7 imported ( 1PR, 2 Work Permit, 3 Dependents Pass, 1 LT Visitor Pass)
Out of the 43 dorms cases, 17 were detected through surveillance. This means that the 17 cases were from dorms that were previously cleared, 11 of them were tested positive with serological test result. This indicates past infection, which means that these cases might be undetected during the testing for dorms.
This possible lapse could be due to the incubation period of the virus leading to a false negative result prior. If this is the case, expect more such cases to emerge given that there were over 300K FW affected in Singapore
The 7 imported cases are mainly from India with some from Indonesia and the Netherlands.
The community case is a contact of a previous case
2) MOH changes reporting format of Covid19
There are new columns added - Detected from Surveillance and Already Quarantine added to the report. We think another column should be added for completeness for the community - unlink cases.
3) New Cluster in Tuas View Dorm
This is the 3rd dorm cluster in consecutive days. There are a total of 6 cases from here.
4) 4800 workers issued stay home notice at Sungei Tengah Lodge
This comes a day after the emergence of a new cluster at the dorm
5) Markets in Jurong, Jem Mall among places visited by Covid19 cases while infectious
Do note if you have been to the following places
- Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre at 347 Jurong East Avenue 1 on Aug 11 between 10am and 11am
- Jem mall on Aug 12 between 4.55pm and 5.35pm
- Jurong West 505 Market & Food Centre at 505 Jurong West Street 52 on Aug 13 between 11am and 12.20pm
6) 322 test negative for Covid19 after visiting KTV lounge at HomeTeam NS Khatib on the same day
In a media statement on Aug 21, HomeTeamNS said the doors of the KTV outlet were not closed because of "ongoing minor works", which "inadvertently allowed passers-by to enter to view the interior layout". This runs contrary to an earlier report that the KTV was open for a preview of the place.
The question is why so many visitors in one day??
The KTV was supposedly not operational and given that it is 'close' , there should not be many people there. Besides, how did they properly identified the 322 people, who had a peek at the KTV premises?
Plot thickens
7) World's first floating Apple Store to open soon at Marina Bay Sands
Time to get ready to queue for Apple 12.
