Daily Dose: Relapse

Just when you think the coast is clear for Covid19 in Singapore, a relapse happened.

There is not one but 3 local community cases in the past 4 days. This serves as a reminder that the virus is still around the community despite having 15 days of absence. One Singaporean has also passed away as a result of Covid19. He is a 68-year-old man who had recently returned from Indonesia.

You could see that Singapore residents are already complacent. A visit to the malls and attractions would yield you groups of 5 easily. During our visit to the zoo over the weekend, we saw at least 4 groups with more than 5 pax. Some as many as 10 sitting together at the zoo's restaurant. Ironically, the first of the trio detected had a family gathering of 12 in a restaurant. On that note, social distancing ambassador seems to have been reduced. We have not spotted any at the zoo, a public attraction over the weekend.

As seen from previous weeks and months, the best way to combat this is to stay vigilant. If we choose to ignore it, the sacrifices of many can be derailed by the acts of a few.

1) 8 Covid19 cases

  • 1 Community
  • 7 Imported

The community case is unlinked and is a Work Permit holder from India. His serological test is positive indicating past infection. Imported cases are from Russia, India, Indonesia and Belarus.

4) Black Friday Sale on Orchard Road: Shoppers better at grabbing deals than safe distancing

Sale or no sale, safe distancing and even social gathering continue to be breached. In any case, online shopping is as good as shopping in the stores.
