SkyHelix Sentosa Review : Our first flight!
SkyHelix Sentosa will be opened on 15 Dec.
Tickets are selling out fast but you may still have a chance to get tickets for the opening week at Mount Faber's Leisure Groups website. As a bonus, from 15-19 Dec 2021, a complimentary Häagen-Dazs ice cream mini cup will be given away with each ticket as a special opening week treat. First, come - first serve!
We took a ride before the opening and we will share our experience.
Getting there
The SkyHelix Sentosa is located at Imbiah Lookout zone on the spot of the former Tiger Sky Tower. If you are taking a cable car into the island, it is located just outside Sentosa Station. If you are driving, you could park at Imbiah Lookout as well.
The Experience
First impression. This does not look so tall. It does look a tad shorter than the former Tiger Sky Tower (110m above sea level). Standing at 70 metres above sea level, it is still one of the highest vantage points on Sentosa.
This structure looks like it was inspired by DNA molecules. In fact, the name 'helix' refers to a three-dimensional spiral that is the shape taken by the DNA molecule.
If seen from afar, you might even mistake it as a prop from War of the Worlds.
This futuristic design looks a little out of place at the scenic Imbiah Station but it does bring a touch of the future to Sentosa. We were strapped to our seats with a seatbelt and ready for takeoff.
Upon takeoff, you would immediately notice the unique feature of this ride - it has no floors!
SkyHelix Sentosa |
It is essentially an open-air ride where visitors are seated in a circular manner and facing inwards. Although it is not a typical theme ride, butterflies do get into your stomach when you reached the top. At 35 m above ground with the rush of wind on your hair and no floors under your feet, it is not a ride for the faint-hearted.
Do enjoy the 360-degree view on this 12 minutes ride. Once you are up, the ride will also rotate 35 metres above ground so you do get a vantage view of Sentosa regardless of where you sit. Do note that it gets really windy when you are up. If the wind is strong, you may even feel a shake or two!
While some may anticipate a sharp drop, the decline is rather gentle. While the ride was short, it was a new experience for us. The views between morning and evening would be different, so there is always an opportunity for a return ride at another time.
Have a bite
While waiting for the ride, you could get a bite at the open-air snack bar.
Fruits |
You can get an array of fruits, pies, pastries and pies.
Pies and Pastries |
While you cannot eat on the ride, you can always get a drink when you are on the ride.
