Toh Aquarium Review : Neighbourhood Aquarium for hobbyists.
We are planning to set up a mini Monster Fish tank and decided to scout around
Singapore for the ideal tankmates. After checking out That Aquarium and OTF
aquarium, we decided to head to Toh Aquarium at Kallang as we were told that
they have an interesting range of Monster Fish.
Toh Aquarium
Toh Aquarium takes up the corner shop under a HDB at Kallang Bahru. Its
centralised location meant that is much more accessible than the aquariums at
Pasir Ris or even Clementi. Apparently, this aquarium has its roots from 328
Clementi, a block that is well known for a mix of aquarium shops.

Turtles @ Toh Aquarium |
This shop somewhat resembles a smaller version of the well known Clementi
Florist and Aquarium or what a fish hobbyist call C328. In terms of
space and collection, it is a tad smaller but a lot more organised.
At the front, you would find a selection of tanks, pumps and anything that you
need to set up a home aquarium. Alongside are aquatic plants, feeder fishes in
bags, some small turtles and koi fish.

Bettas @ Toh Aquarium |
Step inside, you will be greeted by tanks that are needly displayed and
organised. On one side ot the shop is a section dedicated to Bettas.

Fishes @ Toh Aquarium |
Walk further inwards and you will find a decent selection of fishes.
|
Stingrays @ Toh Aquarium |
We spotted some interesting options for our Monster Fish Tank. There are
Stingrays, Red Tail Catfish, variety of plecos and even a few rare Tigrinus catfish, otherwise
known as the Zebra Catfish

The display tanks were well maintained, brightly lit and easy to see. Unlike some other aquarium we had been to, the fishes here looks healthy in their well-kept tanks.

Red tail Catfish @ Toh Aquarium |
A common misconception for the new hobbyists is that fish would do well in the
same size tanks. If you are purchasing the fish, do some research first. For
instance, these Red Tail Catfish may look cute in this small tank, but they
will be monsters that grow as big as 1.5 meters!
So if you are planning on getting some of those, make sure you have a pond and
not just a tank!
|
L333 @ Toh Aquarium |
For something more manageable and just as attractive, you might want to
consider these instead. The L333 or King Tiger Pleco would make a good small
tank aquarium fish. Not only does it clean the tank of algae, but it will also only
grow to about 15cm, making them great tankmates.
Other than fish, you can also get your supplies such as food and medicine
here. While we did not check the prices of the supplies, the prices of the
fish here are very competitive. In terms of pricing, we would rate it as one
of the better budget aquariums in town.
The staff are pretty friendly too. It is worth a visit if you intend to start an aquarium.
