Lang Nuong Vietnam Review: Authentic Vietnamese BBQ

How we find authentic Vietnamese Food in Singapore

The best way to search for Authentic Vietnamese Food is to go where Vietnamese would frequent. Lang Nuong Vietnam is one of the restaurants where it would be usual to find Vietnamese dining in the restaurant.

Location

Lang Nuong Vietnam is located at Foch Road off Jalan Besar Road. It is one of the many eateries on the ground floor of rows of shophouses lining Foch Road and Jalan Besar. While the location gave it a distinct character, eating in a 'run-down' building in modern Singapore has its charm.

Lang Nuong Vietnam

Lang Nuong Vietnam has a small kerbside area with an open planned indoor area. The hanging lanterns on the ceiling and the low table and chairs gave it a very Vietnamese Vibe. Stepping in, it feels like you are eating on the street of Danang more than in Singapore.

It prides itself on being the first Vietnamese BBQ in Singapore. Since we have not tried Vietnamese BBQ yet, we decided to try it.

The food

While there is a menu on the door, orders were done via QR Code. The app menu is slightly different from the one at the door.

For our meal, we had the Pho Beef, Vietnamese Spring Roll (Gỏi cuốn) and Stir-Fried Cockles (sò huyết)

Vietnamese Spring Roll (Gỏi cuốn)

Gỏi cuốn
We like Gỏi cuốn due to its harmonious blend of textures and taste. This translucent rice paper filled with various fresh ingredients is usually our starter for Vietnamese dishes. This version does not disappoint. Packed fresh with crisp vegetables and herbs, it gives a refreshing and invigorating sensation on the palate.

Stir-Fried Cockles (sò huyết)
Stir-Fried Cockles
These stir-fried cockles are freshly stir-fried. The peanut sauce gives it a nutty undertone. This combination is a delight at every bite. Too bad about the portion. The served dish looked half the size of the photo on the menu.

Pho Beef

This Pho Beef is as good as any Pho Beef we have tried in Vietnam. The beef was tender and the mix of fresh herbs and bean sprouts added layers of freshness to each spoonful. This is a simple yet definitive dish of how a good Pho should be.

Pork Belly Marinated

You won't find another BBQ Pork Belly quite like this one. It surpasses all others we've tasted with its remarkable tenderness and rich flavors. In fact, it's so delicious that it can easily be enjoyed on its own. However, the experience reaches new heights when you pair it with one of the accompanying herbs. The combination creates a delightful umami sensation that we simply couldn't resist. Without a doubt, this BBQ Pork Belly stands miles above the rest, earning the title of the best we've ever had!

Verdict

Looks can be deceiving, and that's certainly the case at Land Nuong Vietnam. Despite its modest and authentic decor, this place truly excels in its BBQ offerings. It was intriguing to see others cook their own BBQ on a pot, and we were initially surprised that this option wasn't available to us.

One may need to order a larger selection of BBQ dishes to enjoy that setup. Nevertheless, the BBQ Pork Belly alone made our visit worthwhile, leaving us eager to return and explore the rest of their BBQ menu.
