Amari Bangkok Hotel Review 2024: Good Location opposite The Platinum Fashion Mall

Where to stay if you are planning a shopping spree in Bangkok?

Bangkok's Platinum Fashion Mall is the undisputed number-one shopping destination. If you are planning a shopping holiday, Amari Hotel should be at the top of your list of hotels in Bangkok. Amari Bangkok ( previously known as Amari Watergate Bangkok) is located in the heart of Pratunam.  The main reason is that Platinum Fashion Mall is located right at your doorstep.

 Amari Bangkok Check-in

Checking in is relatively smooth. Check-in time was at 2 p.m. We arrived an hour earlier and were assigned a room without waiting.

The Hotel has its own reward system - ONYX rewards. If you have that membership, there is a priority check-in at a different counter.

Amari Bangkok Grand Deluxe Room

We booked our Grand Deluxe Room through booking.com at a lower price than the hotel website. It also comes with complimentary airport pickup, making it a pickup.

Our room is a decent 40 sqm in size. You can opt for a King or Twin bed combination.

We had the King size. The bed was comfortable, but we thought the pillows were too soft to sleep on.

The room also has a daybed/couch, a decent-sized TV, and a desk.

The view was of the city facing Palladium World.

This faces the morning sun, so if you are a sunrise person, you might like the view. The other option will be facing The Platinum Fashion Mall.

Toilet amenities were provided.

It has a double sink, a bathtub, and separate shower and toilet areas.

Drinking water was provided, and instant coffee and tea were available.

Overall, this is a decent room in terms of size and comfort. While the decor is a little dated compared to other, more modern hotels, it is still acceptable.

Facilities

The hotel has several dining options, but we had not tried any because there were plenty of food options around the hotel at a lower price.

The hotel also has a private swimming pool.

There is also a gym with a table tennis table and bar.

If you are looking to relax after shopping, there is the Breeze Spa. The spa has a good 4.4 rating on Google.

On the 3rd floor of the hotel are a few tailor shops. These shops are popular with tourists who intend to make a suit or a couple of shirts and pants.

Around the Hotel

Location is where the hotel really shines. There are plenty of shopping options around Amari Bangkok. It is also located around 650m from Ratchaprarop Station (Airport Rail Link), so you can take the train from the airport.

The downside is that it is quite a distance from BTS. The nearest station, Chit Lom, is about 1.1km or 17 minutes' walk. This did not affect us during the trip, as we took Grab whenever we headed out, as it was quite affordable.

Here's a quick guide to the attractions around the hotel

Shopping

Shopping is the main reason why we chose the Amari Hotel. Here are a few places we had shopped during our stay.

The Platinum Fashion Mall

The Platinum Fashion Mall is where you can find bargain-quality clothes at affordable prices. If you love to shop for clothes at night markets or Chatuchak, you will love The Platinum Fashion Mall. This place sells similar, if not the same, stuff you find at night markets but at a cheaper price. With six floors to shop, it will take hours to comb through the place.

December Clothes Outlet

If you ever wonder where Tiktokers find their clothes in Bangkok, this is the place to head to. It sells primarily female clothes and welcomes Tiktokers to livestream their clothes. On any given day, at least 100 Livestreamers are working there. Often, they sell what they promote at double the price. Instead of buying from Tiktokers, why not check it out yourself?

Pratunam Morning Market

If you want cheaper prices in The Platinum Fashion Mall, head to the nearby Pratunam Morning Market next to Amari Bangkok. If you buy more than two items, you can spot similar clothes at wholesale prices.

Big C Ratchadarmi

Thai snacks are also popular souvenirs. Prices at Big C are half of what you can find in Singapore!

Here are 20 Thai snacks you can buy from Big C!

Centralworld

Want more upmarket clothes? Centraworld is the place to go. Plenty of international restaurants like Cheesecake Factory can be found here.

Food Options

If you save your tastebuds for local restaurants, there are interesting options around the hotel.

Go-Ang Chicken Rice

The Michelin Bid Gourmand Award Winner serves Hainanese chicken rice at 50 baht a plate. You should at least try it once.

The Place 16

We ate here during our stay and loved the big bowl of Tom Yum Noodle soup served with seafood and roasted pork belly. Yummylicious!

Kraua Aroi

If you want a variety of Thai food without breaking the bank, this is the place to go. It offers generous portions, affordable prices, and a local Thai vibe.

Massage

After all the shopping and eating, you will need a break. There are plenty of affordable massage places around the hotel. A one-hour foot massage costs as little as 200 baht (SGD 8). It's totally worth it.

Leteva Massage

We recommend this spot that is less than 5 5-minute walk from the hotel. Book a service on Klook for an even cheaper price!

How to Book an Amari Bangkok Hotel

Booking can be made via the Hotel website or Booking.com. We made our reservations at the latter due to the better prices and promotions.

Final Thoughts

If shopping is your main reason for heading to Bangkok, this is the hotel to stay at. Furthermore, there is quite a crowd around the hotel in the evening due to the night markets across and opposite the room. This is great for those looking for safe places to venture out in the evening.

Please note that this hotel has two lobbies. The main one is for drop-off, and the lower lobby is for pickup for non-private car pickup ( if you book a taxi or a transfer to the airport).

If we were to go back to Bangkok to shop, this would be our choice hotel.
