Braseiro Restaurant: Affordable Steak with Free Flow Fries and Salad

Finding an affordable and good steak in the East is not an easy task.

Unsurprisingly, a plate of steak can easily cost $50 or more in most restaurants. However, we found a sweet deal at Braserio Restaurant with a Combo Duo menu for 4 at $179.90. Not only do you get a choice of ribeye steak, but you also have entrees and desserts.

Braseiro Restaurant

Located along Joo Chiat Road, Braserio Restaurant is tucked away in a corner on a row of shophouses near the carpark next to the Scanteak showroom. This is a French steakhouse known for fire-grilled meats and Unlitimed Homemade Fries.

It has 2 levels and may be squeezy on the first floor. If you eat there, the 2nd floor would be better as it is bigger and in our opinion a much more enjoyable setting.

Decor-wise, it has an English / French vibe to the place with dark wooden tunes.

The Food

We had a meal there twice within a span of 3 months. Returning to the same restaurant warrants a review as it would have meant we liked our first expereince.. As per our first visit, we ordered the Combo Des Copains ( Special for 4 Pax). This includes 2 entrees (appetizers), 4 mains and 2 desserts. Prices have since increased from last year and now cost $179.90 ++. Still, this is an affordable option compared to what you get in other steakhouses in the East.

Entrees

Camembert rôti

Camembert rôti is essentially camembert cheese & French Baguette. We love the cheese dips. The staff noticed we ran out of bread during our meal and offered to top it up. This is a plus for excellent customer service that we had encountered throughout the evening.

Grignotage

Our other entree is the Grignotage. You can have the 2 options from a choice of fried calamari/ fried chicken/mozzarella sticks/jalapeno cream cheese. Our fried calamari and mozzarella sticks was a good choice.

Mains
Entrecote ( Flame Grilled Ribeye Steak)
Our mains were the Entrecote and US Angus Burger. For the Ribeye Steak, we decided to upside to 300g (extra $8) from the 200g on the menu. It was a good decision, as 300g is perfect for hungry folks like us.

We had a mix of medium-rare and medium-rare steaks cooked to our liking. The steak comes with three sauces (BBQ, chipotle, and Mustard), and our favourite is chipotle. It also comes with a stack of homemade fries on the side. If you prefer to have the steak and not the full course, it is available ala carte for only $24.90 for a 200g steak. A price that is pocket-friendly for steak lowers.

We love the homemade fries. It was not crunchy, but it had a taste that kept enticing us to have more. Thank goodness for the unlimited complimentary fries option. We did ask for more during our meal.

Fresh lettuce are also free flow. However, we could not quite agree with the dressing, and they were left mostly untouched. Could Braserio consider changing the salad dressing to something more palatable?

Burger

To mix things up, we ordered a burger. You can choose the choice of patty from Angus Beef Patty, homemade fried chicken leg patty, breaded & Fried Camembert cheese patty or even plant-based patty. You can also choose your sauce (ketchup/mustard/chilli, cream pepper, chipotle mayo, smiled bbq). The burger comes with double cheddar, bacon, lettuce and tomato. If you are looking for a good burger, you would not go wrong with this one.

Desserts

Grufre au Nutella

Belgian waffle with Nutella, speculoos, kinder bueno and vanilla ice cream. If you are dining with children, this would be perfect for them.

Coeur couland au chocolate

This is a chocolate lave cake with vanilla ice cream. Our dish was served without the ice cream and we notify the staff about it. In return, we have not one but two scoops of ice cream. This is an excellent service recovery.

We enjoyed the desserts here. The only gripe are the names, its not easy to pronounce them when ordering.

Verdict

Our experience at Braseiro has been good (that explains our return visit). For a steak night out, this is actually an affordable option. If you just opt for steak, the prices start from $24.90 ++ for a Flame-grilled ribeye steak. This is almost half the price of what other steakhouses are offering. While the prices are good, the options for different steaks are limited to ribeye steak.

Food-wise, it is palatable. The standout will be the good service we experienced throughout the evening.

If space is a constraint, you can always hop across the road to Burger and Steak Frites. They are under the same management and serve the same dishes. The ambience there is more casual and suitable for families.
