LUMOS FLOAT Review- First 360 ° Rotatable Projector

Looking for an affordable and versatile projector?

The LUMOS FLOAT is the latest addition to LUMOS home cinema projectors. This projector is made to target the masses at a jaw-dropping price from $199 only. At this price range, it will be a stretch to find a 27-inch monitor. With a projected screen size of 50-150 inches from the LUMOS FLOAT, this looks like a steal.

First Impression: A Floating Projector?

This is not your regular projector with fixed legs. Instead, it comes with a handle cum stand for the projector. This allows the projector to turn 360 °. This is useful for projecting an image from different angles and even on the ceilings.

The handle has a Skytrack system. Using the Command Universal Picture Hanger, you can also wall mount this without any tool.  This would be useful to hang this next to or above your bed.

In terms of build, this is a solid aluminium. It has a small footprint and is lightweight for portability. For connections, you have AV, USB, HDMI and Audio Out.

Accessories provided are power cable, HDMI cable, AV cable, user manual and remote control.

Features

Projection on Grey Textured Wall

Build in Apps
The unit I had is the SMART version ($298) that comes preloaded with YouTube and Netflix. Unlike earlier projectors, Netflix works effortlessly with the Remote Control. An external mouse is not required to navigate Netflix.

Other Apps like Disney + can be easily downloaded from Google Playstore.

3000 Lumens, 1080p support

The LUMOS FLOAT comes with 3000 Lumens, which is not bad by today's standard. I had been using the LUMOS AURO V2 regularly and was spoiled by the impressive 6000 Lumens. Compared to the LUMOS FLOAT to the Flagship, the brightness is obvious. On the flip side, darker images made it more watchable in bright environments.

LUMOS FLOAT has a native 720p resolution with 1080p support. The best screen output would be to project it on a projection screen or a white wall under darkness to see the best visual. The LUMOS FLOAT does not come with autofocus, but that is easily mitigated with the focus control on the remote.

Only 1.5m needed, Screen Size up to 150 inches

The minimum distance will be 1.5m to project a 50-inch screen. The LUMOS FLOAT can generate an image as big as 150 inches. The good thing about the float is that you can switch from wall mount to ceiling mount with just a twist of the projector. There are no necessary fumbles or awkward positions as you would with other projectors.

Connectivity to the home network was seamless and there was no noticeable lag during operation. The remote control is basic without any shortcut buttons. It would be a homerun if Netflix, youtube shortcut buttons were on it.

Verdict

The LUMOS FLOAT is decent for its price point and would be ideal for budget-conscious consumers. As a projector, it would be a good addition to bedrooms or study rooms. It is available in Pink, Silver or Gold.

Pros
  • Value for money
  • Versatile setup
  • Build-in apps like Netflix and Youtube work seamlessly
