Nan Xiang Chicken Rice at Tanjong Katong - The best Chicken Rice in the East?

Nan Xiang Chicken Rice is one of those hidden gems you stumble upon and end up returning to again and again.

Located in a corner coffee shop along the Tanjong Katong stretch, this humble stall has been serving the neighbourhood for years. Step inside and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported back to the 1980s – tiled floors, old-school tables, and an atmosphere that time forgot. Yet, that retro charm is part of what makes it special.

The Food

When it comes to the food, Nan Xiang delivers where it matters most. The roasted chicken is tender and pairs beautifully with the fragrant, flavourful chicken rice. But truth be told, the real stars here are the roasted meats.

The roast pork comes with a skin so crispy and crunchy that it gives a satisfying crackle with every bite. It’s done just right, not overly fatty or greasy. 

The char siew, on the other hand, steals the show with its caramelised char and deep smoky sweetness. It’s the kind of char siew that keeps you coming back for more.

We ordered drumstick rice each, along with a plate of mixed char siew and roast pork. The bill came up to just $19 for two – a steal for the quality and portions served.

Verdict

If you’re in the East and craving chicken rice with top-notch roast meats, Nan Xiang should be on your list. Delicious, affordable, and wonderfully nostalgic, we dare say this might just be the best chicken rice and roast meat stall in the area.
