A striking new mural has appeared in Joo Chiat, covering the full side wall of a building behind Alibaba, near i12 Katong. Painted in vibrant shades of blue, this massive artwork is a love letter to Katong’s past and community life.
The mural features familiar icons such as Katong Shopping Centre and the Red House, alongside nostalgic scenes of an old-school kopitiam where uncles pour teh tarik for the morning crowd.
You’ll also find several kucinta (Singapura cats) scattered around the piece — a playful touch that locals will appreciate.
Hidden within the mural is a portrait of Chew Joo Chiat, the man behind the name of this storied neighbourhood. A beautiful blend of art and heritage, it’s a new must-see stop for mural hunters in the East.
