Musicals and Plays for Pre school kids

Upcoming Musicals and Plays suitable for Pre School Kids

( Jul - Sep 2012)

Daddy is planning to expose us to the ARTS performance scene.  He thinks it is a good idea to bring us out during weekends for a play or musical that would suit us. Afterall a little speech and drama or even a circus would be a welcome distraction to our routine of play, play and more play. We had our first theatre experience as a family watching Voyage De La Vie at RWS and we enjoyed it tremedously!

We would like to share what Daddy had researched and what we may watch in the next 3 months.

A Brown Bear, A Moon and A Caterpillar

Annie
10 July to 5 Aug, Sands Theatre MBS
The West End version of the 1977 musical comes to Singapore, bringing the heart-warming rags-to-riches story of a young orphan's journey from a hard-knock New York orphanage to the luxurious home of billionaire businessman Oliver Warbucks.
Who could say no to a full fledged musical. Would have prefer if it is Oliver Twist as it would be more engaging for the boys

Cirque Du Soleil - Saltimbanco
26Jul - 5 Aug, Singapore Indoor Stadium
The signature production of Cirque du Soleil will be staged in Singapore featuring 50 artists, breathtaking acrobatics, gravity-defying Bungees, Trapeze, Chinese Poles, Russian Swing, Juggling, Acrobatic Bicycle, Clowns ... together with spectacular costumes, humour, music and magic.
Saltimbanco is from the Italian phrase saltare in banco meaning to jump on a bench. It explores the myriad facets of urban living - the people, their idiosyncracies, likenesses, families, groups. It creates a fanciful, dreamlike world, an imaginary city where diversity is a cause for hope.

Not exactly a musical, but a circus not unlike the one from Magadascar III

Dr Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat
22 Aug to 30 Sep, DBS Arts Centre
If you ever read a Dr Seuss book, you ill love this production of The Cat in the Hat. Every Dr Seuss story is a lesson in grammar, syntax, scansion, phonics, morality, ethics, tolerance and the human spirit.
Sally and her brother get a surprise visit from the Cat in the Hat. With his endless tricks and wacky ideas, he certainly turned a dull rainy afternoon into one amazing adventure.
'The Cat in the Hat' is Charles favourite bedtime show ( yep bedtime show replaces bedtime stories)When we heard that this play is coming, we decided that this would be our most obvious choice as a starting play to expose both kids. Its helps too that the minimum age is 2.

The Arabian Nights
1 – 18 Sep, Singapore Airlines Theatre , LASALLE College of Art
The tales told by Shahrazad over a thousand and one nights to delay her execution by the vengeful King Shahriyar have become immortalised in print. Form the epic adventures of ‘Aladdin and the Enchanted Lamp’ and  ‘Sinbad the Sailer’ to ‘The Tale of the Hunchback, the stories depict a fabulous world of all-powerful sorcerers, genies imprisoned in bottles and enchanting princess.
A play that tells Daddy's favourite childhood stories is a good start to expose the kids to old school stories.
