BLEAGH! : Book Review

Bleagh!
A few days ago, during one of the boy's play session, they began to fight.
Seeing the impending chaos, I decided to step in and tell us a story.

Story Time!
It has been quite a while since I have read to the boys a story. Given the lapse , the boys were eager to engage in this 'fresh' activity. Effectively that stopped the fight as they listen attentively to the story.
They were introduced to Bleagh! ( pronounced as BLEH), a blue monster who is having his first day of school.
First day of school
They learn that they were not the only ones finding difficulty to adjust to the first day in school. They also learn that school is not as scary as it seems and there are friends who would help Bleagh assimilate to school.

In addition, they were taught values from the actions of Bleagh. They learn about friendship, sharing, teamwork , honesty and reward. The boys can identify with Bleagh and its experience as they had gone through similar emotions while still in school.

Sharing stories.
The boys were intrigued by the colorful illustrations and the story within. The illustrations themselves can form part of the story and expand the storyline of the book. As the focus of the story is on values, it would be a good book to pick up to explain certain logic to the child. In addition, for children going to school, they would be able to identify the first day jitters as well as the happenings in class albeit that it comes in the form of a blue monster.
Where is the Blue Monster?
The title 'Bleagh' is not an easy title to pronounce or remember. It could be simpler so it will be easy to read and identify with. The use of a mean looking blue monstor could be menacing to younger kids, but it also teaches us that prejudice should not be in a young child's mind, and we should not judge a book by its cover.
I love Stoytime!

Overall this 32 page storybook would make a good classroom reading or bedtime reading for kids.

About the book

It’s BLEAGH’s first day at school. Like the other students in his class, BLEAGH is cheeky and fun but there’s one big difference between them....he’s a MONSTER! Will BLEAGH be able to learn important values and make new friends
