Remnants of The former turf cub |
The Grand Dame returns
Turf city had a recent change in management and after going through months of upgrading , it is now rebrand as The Granstand.
|
The Grandstand |
Build in 1933 by Singapore Turf Club for horse racing, this gigantic building had seen transformation from a race course to a hospital during the war years, to a run down Mall at the turn of the century. Today it is reborn as The Grandstand, a foodie paradise that is anchored by Pasarbella. We were there over a weekend to explore the new
Fidgets World and took a sneak peek around The Grandstand.
The Grandstand is split into 3 zones, The Grandstand car mall housing the car dealers, the south grandstand housing the new food outlets and the south grandstand housing the majority of retails outlets and helm by Pasarbella. There is also the supermarket Giant which retains its original facade at the basement level.

Let's go to the market
Pasarbella a unique concept featuring 30 different stalls within its 30000 square feet space. It vaguely resembles a marketplace with individual stores selling items from organic food, cheese, seafood , beer and lots. The setting was a tad dark with old style decor. In some quarters it resembles an upmarket version of Sydney Paddymarket.Compared to shopping at Giant, this place takes grocery shopping up a few notches that you almost feel like you are shopping for gourmet food.

Hungry to where?
Move away from Pasarbella and you will be pampered by a corridor of food outlets. Most of the outlets are brand New. We spotted a family friendly restaurant known as Treehouse cafe with literally a tree house in the middle of its premise for play.Food prices are pretty reasonable and there is also a mini food court selling Char Kway Teow, chicken rice , wanton Mee and the likes for those who wants a no fuss meal.

Food paradise @ The Grandstand |
Moving outside , there are a handful of restaurants as well. We like the look of Mad - Modern Asian Diner and Tunglok Xihe Peking duck restaurant for large family gatherings.

Some shopping therapy
The Grandstand is position as a food mall. However, families with kids may interested in the family friendly stores located on the 4th floor of the South Grandstand and the newly open Fidget's World, which we rave about in our past review.Nevertheless if shopping is want you seek. This laid back enclave is not the destination to be in. However if it is food you crave, you have come to the right place.

Retail shops on the 4th floor |
Lastly before we left. My parents had a déjà vu moment. They spotted a huge life size cutout that resembles me circa 2011. It is actually a print of Xiao Bin Bin from Taiwan. It was uncanny as the outfit of Bermudas and blue T resemble one of my earlier outfit. Check out the bob hairdo as well. What do you think? Does he resemble my long lost Twin?
