The Margaret River region spans from Dunsborough to Augusta, we bring you 12 must-do experiences for families with kids in this region.

Dunsborough 

Dunsborough is located at the top of Margaret River Region. If you are travelling from Perth, it will be the first city to stop and explore. From Lighthouses to caves, there are a good mix of natural and man-made attraction.

Cape Naturalistic Lighthouse is the smaller lighthouse of the 2 main lighthouses in Margaret River. It may be small, but still worth a visit. Do the lighthouse tour if you have the time.

Another must-do activity in Margaret River is to visit a farm. Wonky Windmill is the perfect authentic farm experience for families. With plenty of greenery to walk around, you can get up close and personal with farm animals such as sheep. alpacas, rabbits and more!

Looking for a one-stop entertainment location that combines animal farms with amusement rides?

Country Life farm will be the place to go if you are in Dunsborough. You can choose to rowboats, sit bumper cars, jump on bouncy castles or explore a mega indoor playground.

7 Yallingup Maze

Getting lost has never been more fun... especially when you are in Yallingup Maze.

The Maze is more challenging than it looks. There are 4 checkpoints and it took us more than an hour to find all off them. After finding your way out, you could also chill in the cafe while kids can explore the log play park next to it.

8 Sugarloaf Rock

Located near Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse, you could combine a visit here together with the lighthouse. It is one of the more popular natural formations in Margaret River and is worth a visit.


9 Canal Rock

Another natural formation that will entice the kids. This time you can practise your rock climbing skills and climb up this rocky hill to witness the natural 'canal' that is formed by the rock formation.



10 Sunrise at Bunker's Bay

If you are in Dunsborough region, head to Bunker's Bay in the wee hours of the morning. The sunrise on the horizon over the Indian Ocean is a sight to behold.

12 Visit a Winery

Margaret River is well known for its winery.

If you only have time for one, we recommend the Voyager Estate. Head to the Rose Garden and smell the roses while Mom and Dad go for food tasting.

13 Visit the Brewery
Bootleg Brewery
Other than Wineries, Breweries are aplenty at Margaret River. Most brewery comes with a playground. If you have only time for one, the bootleg brewery is worth a visit with its vast land and big shaded playground.


14 Sunflower Farm

Located minutes away from the town centre, Sunflower Farm is a must-go farm if you are in Margaret River.

15 Mammoth Cave

Another cave to explore. Mammoth Cave is a self-guided cave located near Margaret River. It is less fancy compared to Jewel Caves and is worth a visit.

16 Calgarup Cave

If you want to explore caves the old fashion way ( ie with headlights and torches), Calgarup Cave is the cave to head to. There are no fancy show lights and it is much smaller compared to Mammoth Cave. However, walking 600 meters in complete darkness is one experience you should consider exploring.

Don't worry, the paths are pretty straightforward and it is kids friendly!

If you are staying in Margaret River and would like a quiet place to unwind, Rotary Park located at the edge of the town would be the place to head to. It is a riverside recreational area featuring a playground, gardens, barbecues, toilets & picnic facilities. 

Say hi to Old Kate, the 100 + year old locomotive or take a trail walk on the Margaret River Heritage Trail when you are there.

21 Boranup Karri Forest

On your way down from Margaret River to Augusta, you will pass by Boranup Karri Forest along caves road. These giant trees grow as tall as 60 meters, towering over mere mortals like us.

We highly recommend a trip down to Augusta. It may be a small town, but there are amazing attractions not to be missed.

Situated at the most South-westerly point of Australia, Cape Leeuwin is Australia's tallest lighthouse on the mainland.

You can go on a self-guided tour around the grounds or Cape Leeuwin or take a scheduled lighthouse tour. It is also here that you can witness both the Southern Ocean and the Indian Ocean at one point!

24 Jewel Cave

Visit the fanciest and one of the largest cave in Margaret River. This guided tour will bring you to the deepest end of the cave. See how the rock structures glimmer under the colourful lights of Jewel Cave.

25 Whale Watch
May-August
Whale Watch
If you are in Margaret River between end May to August. Head to Augusta to see the spectacular Humpback Whales in action. If you are lucky, they might put up a show for you with breeches and tail slaps.
