Seagate Backup Plus Portable 5 TB review : You need this!

10 years ago, a 10 GB Hard disk would already be overkill.

Today, a normal photo file from a DSLR would be as big as 0.6 GB per file, making the 10GB storage device obsolete. With the ever-increasing demand for memory from photos to music to videos, even a one TB hard disk would not cut it.

In most computers today,  it would probably be the norm to find computers coming with one TB specs. Still, that is not sufficient to cope with today's demand. Take, for example, our personal usage. With a website to maintain, taking photos for it is the norm. It would be an understatement to state that what we have in our computer would suffice. At an average usage of 200GB per week, our one TB hard disk could barely last us half a year.

With the 5TB Seagate Backup Plus Portable Storage, our lives are made much simpler. This storage device is compatible with Windows and Apple devices and works out of the box. Just a note, although it is stated as 5GB, the usable space is more like 4.5GB

Coming in at 4.54 x 3.5 x0.82 inches (11.5cm x 8 cm x 21 cm), it is a nifty gadget for such a big storage. Living up to its portable namesake, it comes in at a puny 0.265kg. This means that it would be easy to transport it any way you want without the baggage. IT comes with a USB 3 interface that is backwards compatible.

There are no read-write speed specs available but from personal experience, it was as fast if not faster than our existing hard disks.

The package comes with the menu, a connecting cable and 2 special offers. This edition offers a 1-year Mylio Create a plan in addition to a 2-month Adobe CC Photography Membership. This would probably be useful to new users who want to delve into photography.

The portable hard disk comes in the silver, black or blue version. If you are lucky, you might find a retailer selling the flaming red version that we have. Price average at $190 across retailers.

As for us, this could not come any sooner. Our hard disk is running out of space and deleting precious memories to accommodate new ones was not on our agenda. With this gadget, we will be covered for the next 2 years!
