Covid19 Darkest Week - March 9 to March 14

Covid19 rears its ugly head this week.
This is probably the darkest week since the Covid19 outbreak.
Here is a rundown of what happened throughout the week
Monday March 9
Global
- The world shook when a stock market crash occurred on this date. This is the biggest single-day fall since 2008. This was the result of a double whammy. Covid19 spikes over Europe as well as the Russia-Suadi Oil price war.
- Stocks hit trading halts level and the Dow closes 7.8% down or 2013 points for the day.
- Oil was send reeling down from above $50 to below $30 in the biggest single-day drop since 1991.
Singapore
- Singapore started to see double-digit growth in Covid19 over the weekend. The numbers increase by 30% for the past 3 days with imported cases creeping up.
- The Free treatment for short term visitors to Singapore is withdrawn effectively and backdated to March 7. Short term visit pass visitors seeking treatment for Covid19 will now have to pay the full cost.
Tues March 10

- Stock Market has a recovery day
Singapore
- Cruise Ship Costa Fortuna carrying Italians dock in Singapore. Majority of the travellers will depart Singapore in 2 days
Wed March 11

- WHO declares Covid19 as a Pandemic
- Stock market retreats back to Black Monday levels

- 12 more cases reported with 8 imported cases
Thurs March 12
Global
- US bans travels from Europe (except UK) for 30 days
- Black Thursday Stock Market Crash. The Stock Market goes into a tailspin with DOW descending 10% in Black Thursday. Trading was halted as soon as it starts. There was a temporary recovery when Federal Reserve introduced 1.5 Trillion stimulus plan. However, by end day, the market close near the lows, marking the worst single-day point drop since the 1987 Stock Market Crash.
- Major sporting events in US suspended. NBA, MLB, MLS and NHL are all suspended.
- Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson become the first popular celebrity to contract Covid19.
- Norway Shuts its doors to the world for 2 weeks
Singapore
- PM Lee had an unscheduled update on Covid19. Contrary to rumours, DOSCORN remains at Orange.
- Catholic Church will continue to suspend Mass instead of restarting them this weekend as planned.
- Mosque will close for at least 5 days. 2 confirmed cases from Religious gathering in KL. This includes one that is an officer of a mosque.
Friday March 13

- Formula One GP Inaugural race cancelled hours before the start due to confirmed Covid19 case in Mclaren Team
- Disney California, Disney World Florida and Disneyland Paris to close from March 15. This added to the closure of Disneyland HK, Disneyland Tokyo, Disneyland Shanghai.
- PM Trudeau's Wife test Positive for Covid19
- EPL Suspend season to April
- Stock Market bounces back with biggest rally since 2008, reclaiming the losses on Thursday
- USA declared National Emergency due to coronavirus
Singapore
- Travel Bans on visitors with travel history for the past 14 days from Italy, France, Spain, Germany
- Stay Home Notice for Singaporeans and PR from Italy, France , Spain and Germany for the last 14 days
- Visitors showing signs of respiratory symptoms at checkpoint to be issued SHN regardless of travel history,
- Ticketed Events with 250 participants or most must be deferred or cancelled
- Workplace measures to reduce close contact
