Fish fan and staying in the East?

If you are looking to set up your own home aquarium or tank, you should pay a visit to Mainland Tropical Fish Farm. 

Established in 1970, the fish farm is located at Pasir Ris Farmway 1. If you do not know where it is, it is just about 1km down the road from IKEA Tampines. 

Fishes

Step into the Fish Farm and you would notice the multiple outdoor ponds that are filled with Koi, Arowana and one of the largest freshwater fish in the world - the red tail catfish that have been recorded to grow as big as 1.8m. If you like to feed them, you can purchase catfish food for $4 per packet from the store.

Not all fishes are for sale. Some might be there for breeding or export. The one that interests us the most are the Koi Ponds.

If you have kids, you can even catch your own fishes home. There is longkang fishing available at the premises. Price is at $4 per pax for kids under 12. Fishing can be a family affair too!

For those looking to get smaller fishes, head indoors to the sheltered area. 

Here you can find more fishes for sale and more practical to keep. For those new to keeping fishes as a hobby. It is not simply just buying a tank and fishes. 

You would need a proper filter system to keep the tank clean, as well as aeration from the air pumps, to provide air. You also need to take into account, daily feeding, weekly water change and washing of the filters. Like any other pets keeping, start only if you can commit long term.

Fibreglass Tanks Mainland Tropical Fish Farm

Other than fishes, Mainland Tropical Fish Farm also sells an extensive range of glass aquariums, fibreglass tanks, tubs, filter media and accessories to start your hobby. In terms of options, it is probably the biggest one we had seen in Singapore.  However, price-wise, expect to pay a slight premium for it.

You should not have any problem finding a tank to suit your needs. From glass tanks for goldfish and fibreglass tank for Koi, finding one that is suitable for your home should be an easy task. Should you require customisation, Mainland Tropical Fish Farm does that too. They an even build a pond for your backyard if needed.

Filter Media

Once you get your tanks and fish, head to the accessory shop to get your filter, pump and fish food. 

They do carry a wide variety of brands including the popular Trusrumi Pump and HiBlow Air Pumps

If you like to explore something else other than your typical playgrounds, Mainland Tropical Fish Farm is worth a visit. Make it a combined trip when you head to IKEA the next time around. Who knows, you might just end up with a tank of fishes along with new furniture for your house.
