长痛不如短痛

Daily Dose : 长痛不如短痛

It's day 9 of consecutive community cases. If we hit day 10, will we expect to see restrictions in place. With CNY preparations and celebration planned for the next few weeks. It would be heartbreaking to see new restrictions in place. Yet, if nothing is done and it gets out of control, we may end up back to CB days. Restrictions may not be a popular policy especially since imported cases outnumbered local cases 10: 1. However, it may be a necessity given the trend we are having.

As the Chinese saying goes 长痛不如短痛. Would the trigger be pulled?

1) 38 Covid19 cases

  • 4 Community
  • 34 imported

9 days in a row, with a total of 24 community cases during this period. If this does not set off the alarm bells, the hundred of imported cases that comes within the same period would create a double whammy in time to come.

Now, instead of focusing on one aspect, we are back to fighting Covid19 on 2 fronts. One from imported cases and the other from local cases. The disturbing trend in local cases is that we are seeing NEW unlink cases every other day. That means the possibility of greater exposure and the more clusters to come. The link cases are related to BS industrial  & Construction supply. There were at least 3 workers with symptoms that did not visit doctors but instead continue to head to work.

It may be time to rethink on Phase 3 policies especially with CNY around the corner. Allowing BBQ and camping which are notorious loopholes for mass gathering is not exactly the right way to go.

As for the imported cases, the work permit holders from Bangladesh, India and Indonesia forms the bulk of the cases.

2) Spore may tighten Covid19 safe distancing rules ahead of CNY, will prioritise vaccine rollout.

You might want to plan the reunion dinner earlier... just in case. With the growing number of community cases and clusters, it will be just a matter of time before stricter measures are imposed.
