Baker & Cook Review : Quaint Breakfast Nook at Siglap Park Connector

What happens when your usual Kopitiam is packed?

We decided to veer off the main road and straight into the landed estate of Siglap. From my previous run around Siglap Linear Park, I had spotted some cafes nestled deep into the enclave. Given that our usual breakfast spot was filled, we decided to give this place a shot.

There are 2 cafes at Siglap Linear Park - Baker & Cook and Black & Ink. The latter only opens for lunch, so we decided to try Baker & Cook.

Baker & Cook prides itself to be Singapore's only true artisan bakery and food store. The bakery products are hand-made and this is the creation of celebrated Global baker, Dean Brettschneider.

Located at Swan Lake at the end of Siglap Linear Park, this hidden cafe has a distinctive European ambience that is both charming and serene. We like the side facade that is made up of old doors and windows.

The Interior

There are seats at the front, back and the outside. We reckon that this spot should be able to seat up to 30 or more at any one time.
At the counter, you will be greeted with pastries, pies, bread and even pasta. Being first-timers there, we did not know what to choose.

In the end, we decided to opt for the Simply Scrambled Eggs, Spanish Omelette from the brunch menu and top it off with rolls and tarts from the counter.

Simply Scrambled Eggs
Baker & Cook-  Simply scrambled egg

Scrambled Eggs served with toasted bread on the side. The scrambled egg portion is quite generous and this should be filling enough for a meal. We added crispy bacon to complete the meal.

Spanish Omelette

Spanish Omelette
The Omelette has a mix of chorizo sausage, red and green capsicums, onion, cheese, BBQ sauce served with toasted B & C bread on the side. It tastes as yummy as it looks.

Quiche Roll and Pie

When you are there, you should try one of their hand made quiche, roll or pie. Price from $8.50 on its own or $12.50 with Salad.

Verdict

The final bill for this breakfast is a tad higher than the usual Kopitiam we visited. While this may not be the place to head for daily breakfast, it has a good ambience.

We will revisit when we want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
