Resort World Sentosa - Festive Hotel review

Festive Hotel Side Entrance

 Staycation at Festive Hotel (RWS)

It's staycation time. We chose to revisit Resort Word Singapore for our staycation for June Holidays.
Last year, we were pretty small and could not enjoy most facilities. However, now that we are a year older and much wackier, we are ready to explore RWS.

We stayed at Festive Hotel Deluxe Family King Room.
For this stay, our 3 major highlights will be

For this segment, we will give you an overview of RWS and some tips for families with kids!

See and compare our 2011 Staycation at RWS.
Around the Resort
Around the Resort
We arrived early at RWS and decided to explore the Resort. The Resort was a little small. The general public area is known as the Festive Walk. This is segmented into dining, retail and entertainment facilities. The Resort is clothed in brown hues. It does look the same at most corners. However, it comes alive at night with the bright Neon Lights, which add a 'festive' mood to the area.
Tip 1: If you are driving, try to park around the red zone (Closest to the Hotel / Casino entrance). Else there will be a golf carts shuttle in the carpark that will bring you close to the door. Walking from the carpark to the hotel is quite a distance, so prepare for it!

Festive Hotel reception
Our check-in time was at 3pm. However, we were there at 230pm. Some reviews stated that early check-ins were discouraged and that there usually would be long queues at check-in time. However, we were pretty lucky to get our keys within 5 minutes.

Depending on your packages, you must collect extra gifts from the concierge. If your package comes with USS or MEM tickets, you need not print them out, as the concierge will provide them. In addition, we got a 3 day free monorail to pass with our package to explore Sentosa or Vivocity.

2 main things that we had observed
1) Kids' gifts are given on request and not volunteered. In fact, we were told that the packs were out of stock at check-in. However, upon proceeding to the concierge, the staff gave some groups to other guests. We were peeved by the different service standards as the first staff had decided not to assist us.

2) Check your packages on the extras. We took the TRANSFORMERS special, but the complimentary TRANSFORMERS souvenirs(See below) were worth half the cost that it was stated; we find this unprofessional for a five-star resort.

3D2N Ultimate Fun - TRANSFORMERS Special from S$888
Package includes:
  • 2-night stay at a choice of Hard Rock Hotel or Hotel Michael Deluxe Room, Festive Hotel Deluxe Family Room or Equarius Hotel Deluxe Room
  • Daily Breakfast for Two
  • One-Day Pass to Universal Studios Singapore® for Two
  • Resorts World™ Sentosa Gift Voucher worth S$25
  • Complimentary One-Day Pass to The Maritime Experiential Museum™ for Two
  • Complimentary Welcome Drinks for Two
  • Complimentary TRANSFORMERS souvenirs worth over $50 for Two

Tip 2: Ask for a kids' gift pack at the concierge if you are travelling with kids. Contents vary.
Tip 3: If you drive, ask for carpark coupons as well!
The Hotel Room
The Room
We checked into the Festive Hotel Deluxe Family King Room. The hotel room is spacious. The room should accommodate a family of 5. It comes with a king-size, loft, and sofa bed. The sofa bed can be unfolded to become a queen size bed. Overall the room looks clean, but the sofa bed looked a little aged.
A toothbrush, shower gels, shampoos and towels were provided. There were also drinks satchels like Milo, coffee and tea. Unfortunately, the Tv channels needed to be more inspiring, with no HBO. There was, however, Cartoon Network to entertain the kids.
The room has a standing shower as well as a small balcony (helpful in drying clothes)
Tip 4: If you have small kids with helpers, this may be the perfect room to stay. You could fit in 3 adults and 2 kids below 10 or an alternate combination of 2 adults and 3 kids.

Complimentary Slippers - 2 adults and 1 kid

Restaurants around RWS

We decided to look for food options around RWS. The last time we were here, we had tried Chillis and Ruyi. This time around, we decided to explore other options. There are many more eating options available at RWS, so do take the opportunity to check them out while you are there.

Tip 5: Ask for kids' utensils at the restaurants; most will provide one!

We stumbled on Aston Specialities at the 'outskirts' of the Resort. It is located near the Sentosa Visitor's Centre. The food was value for money. We had a complete meal for 3 adults, which cost less than $30!

The Food
Our next haunt will be the Malaysia food street. This is Daddy and Mummy's favourite as they like to explore oily, greasy different styles of hawker food. Given the stalls were from 'famous' hawkers around Malaysia, it was interesting to see similar food in Singapore cooked differently.

As for us kids, we were quite contented with the porridge and noodles served there.

Penang Night!
The Set up
Daddy and Mummy decided to expand their waistline with Penang's favourite dishes like the Penang Lim Brothers Char Koay Teow, Penang Ah Long Lor Bak and Penang Ah Mei Hokkien Prawn Mee.
Yummy and Oily!
We had breakfast at the Festive Hotel.
The restaurant is called the Fiesta and is located on the 3rd floor. For additional guests, it costs $24++ for adults and $14 ++ for kids 5 and above.

Fiesta

The Buffet
Outdoor Egg Station
Outdoor Dining
The buffet was mainly Asian food. The variety mostly stays the same on a day-to-day basis. Nevertheless, it would be sufficient to fill an empty stomach. The restaurant has an orange theme and exhibits festive hues befitting the name Fiesta.
There was both indoor and outdoor dining. Do go early as queues tend to grow from 9am onwards
Tip 6: The eggs station is located outdoors. We could not see it on the first day as we had indoor meals. There are no signs showing an egg station outdoors, so look out for it!

Night Entertainment
Crane Show

For free entertainment, we decided to view the Crane Show. The location of the show is near the sea. You have to proceed past MEM to get to the show. Be there early as the crowd does build up.
The show starts at 9pm every evening. The show is open to the public.

Tip 7: For those who are looking for something to do in the evenings, you can consider a drive up to RWS. You do not need to pay the entrance fee for Sentosa. Moreover, you can get to enjoy the dining, shopping and entertainment options available at RWS.
We had a good day exploring RWS. Now it is time for bed!
Watch for our upcoming reviews on Swimming Pools of RWS, USS for kids, MEM review and a unique Sesame Street in USS feature!
PS: we will revisit RWS once the Marine Life Park is ready!

    1. I guess if you do not declare , you need not pay. If you are not going for breakfast for the extra adults, it should be fine. But we certainly don't encourage having more adults than beds here .

    1. They did not check my boy who is 3, but he is rather small size. Maybe just keep a photocopy of the passport just in case.
