Dlink DCS 8526LH Review : Your 360° Home Sentinel




Looking for a home security camera?

Having a camera in the house serves several functions. From monitoring the home when you are not around to keeping an eye on children. Home security cameras are now becoming the norm.

While one may be tempted to get a few cameras for a room, there are a few options that allow you to monitor the room with a 360° view. The new Dlink DCS 8526LH fits the bill.



Avaliable from selected stores, the DCC8526LH have several new features that makes it stand out from the crowd. For those upgrading, these additional features might even entice one to upgrade.

Features

360° view 
With a 340 degree pan and 105-degree tilt, this range of motion will cover 360 degrees of the room. 
The camera itself has a wide 120-degree view ensuring a panoramic view when it is not moving. Nonthing will be out of your sight regardless of the placement of the camera (provided nothing is blocking the line of sight).  Control of the pan and tilt can be done remoting with the Dlink app. 

See in the dark
With a build-in infrared LED, you can view up to 5 meters in the dark. 24 hours monitoring is possible with this camera

Smart Tracking, Privacy mode
The DCS 8526LH has an impressive smart tracking where a detected moving object will be tracked as the camera pan to follow the object. Additionally, it comes with a privacy function that will tilt the lens back to its cover to ensure maximum privacy for the user.

Edge Based intelligent for more accurate detection
With built-in enhance AI, it can identify human motion for more accurate detection.  Bugs would not trigger false detection for this camera.

Cloud Recording and Rich Notification.
You can send built-in motion and sound detection so you can send push notifications to your mobile phone.



There is also a microSD card slot for you to record video clips. You can also use mydlink cloud service to set up for recording or receiving notifications. There is a free service that provides cloud recording for up to 24 hours. Paid services are available if you are looking for a longer term.

No matter where you are, you will know that you are covered.

 
Works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa
If you have the above devices, you can use voice command to stream live video from camera to Amazon fire TV, Echo Show, Echo Spot or Google Chromecast. 

Size and build


Compared to our current DCS 8515, the new model carries a smaller footprint in both height and width. The design has also changed in comparison to the old model.

Usage

Setting up was a breeze via the Dlink App. Launch the app and it will detect the new device. Follow the instructions on the screen and its good to go in a few minutes.  Control on mydlink app appears stable though some lag can be expected. 


In terms of picture quality, the 1080 30fps beats the HD performance of the older model. .

This is a comparison of a 720p photo and a 1080p photo. The latter picks up more details than the 720p

From the app, you would be able to set privacy mode, motion and person detection and a host of other functions.

Verdict
The ease of set up, the smart features and the 1080p definition are major pluses. For those who are getting it as their first set, there should be no problem setting it up. For those familiar with Dlink, they would be happy with this set. As long as the app remains stable, this sentinel would be a good tool to keep watch over your house.
